Are you sure the script isn't also trying to start nmbd? Nmbd won't
start, for example, if you have contradictory wins settings in your
smb.conf. Anything interesting in 'cat /var/log/samba/nmbd.log', or
'grep nmbd /var/log/messages' ? Does testparm give any errors/warnings?
