Contradictory results between different heteroskedasticity tests
Hi all,
I'm getting contradictory results from bptest and ncvTest on a model
calculated by GLS as:
olslm = lm(log(rr)~log(aloi)*reg*inv, data)
varlm = lm(I(residuals(olslm)^2)~log(aloi)*reg*inv, data)
glslm = lm(log(rr)~log(aloi)*reg*inv, data, weights=1/fitted(varlm))
Testing both olslm and glslm with both ncvTest and bptest gives:

contradictory netfilter default policy
I'm curious why CentOS contradicts its own (or, actually RH's) netfilter
default policy.
On http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Network/IPTables , at the end of
section 1, it's stated that (generally) the default policy for INPUT is
to DROP. So, why is it set to ACCEPT?
Btw, Fedora is also this way.

R: lmer specification for random effects: contradictory reults
Dear Thierry,
thank you for the quick reply.
I have only one question about the approach you proposed.
As you suggested, imagine that the model we end up after the model selection
procedure is:
mod2.1 <- lmer(dT_purs ~ T + Z + (1 +T+Z| subject), data =x, REML= FALSE)
According to the common procedures specified in many manuals and recent
papers, if I want to compute the p_values relative to

Copying a live system
I want to backup my current CentOS-7.2 system to another drive.
Is it safe to copy the system while it is running?
Eg by
mount /dev/sdb5 /mnt
rsync -HPaxvz /. /mnt/
I've found contradictory advice on the web.

lmer specification for random effects: contradictory reults
Hi All,
I was wondering if someone could help me to solve this issue with lmer.
In order to understand the best mixed effects model to fit my data, I
compared the following options according to the procedures specified in many
papers (i.e. Baayen

axis.POSIXct: Datetime data and plotting
I've run into a problem with the datetime axis generated by axis.POSIXct. It appears a similar issue was discussed in October 2003 under the subject line "datetime data and plotting" (see https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2003-October/039071.html), but I wasn't able to determine whether there is a straightforward solution.
The code below produces a graph with apparently

Different goodness of fit tests leads to contradictory conclusions
I am trying to test goodness of fit for my legalistic regression using several options as shown below. Hosmer-Lemeshow test (whose function I borrowed from a previous post), Hosmer–le Cessie omnibus lack of fit test (also borrowed from a previous post), Pearson chi-square test, and deviance test. All the tests, except the deviance tests, produced p-values well above 0.05. Would anyone please

Confusion on call forwarding
I'm confused. What does Asterisk do when it gets a 302 with a new number to
forward to? Is there anything I have to do in the dialplan to make this work?
I can't find any clear documentation on this issue.

Basic setup for vsftpd ?
Hi,
I'm currently fiddling with G4U (Ghost for Unix), and I need to setup a
local FTP server in order to get it to work.
# yum groupinstall "FTP Server" --> installed vsftpd
Here's what I'd like to do :
* no anonymous access
* only one user (user 'install' / pass 'install')
The machine I'm installing it on has a static IP ok

New user is confused by some configuration issues
I find the documentation very confusing about how to install native
DLLs, which native DLLs to install and where to put them. Some of the
advice is contradictory.
I have wine 0.9.17 on Ubuntu 6.06
I see in the system32 a number of DLLs are installed.
Are these the only copy of the builtin DLLs that wine has?
Because the documentation says that when installing native DLLs, they
should best go

Samba/OpenLDAP reliability issue: backend experience needed
Hi
this is more of an OpenLDAP issue, but since it is mostly used with Samba,
some experience would be helpful.
We have a SLES9 PDC, running samba-3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.6
Sometimes, the OpenLDAP gets corrupted, no ideas why. It's a bad thing.
We have 100+ computers, 300+ users, which shall get 350 computers and 800
users.
What would you suggest in order to be reliable ? Reliability is

Working example of ALERT_INFO with Cisco ATAs?
I am wondering if there are any tricks getting the Cisco ATAs to do
"distinctive rings" via the ALERT_INFO variable?
I have seen some contradictory information in the Wiki, and I tried the
example there. I then sniffed the connection between the server and the
ATA and didn't see the header sent like it is "supposed" to be.
If someone out there has a handle on this and

Solaris build fix breaks Solaris
16396:055d98aa2dd0 almost works but not quite. LDFLAGS_DIRECT means we
end up with:
gld -melf_i386 -nostdlib -N -Ttext 0x100000 -o hvmloader.tmp hvmloader.o mp_tables.o util.o smbios.o 32bitbios_support.o acpi/acpi.a
Specifying a linker script and asking for -nostdlib is obviously
contradictory. Removing $(LDFLAGS_DIRECT) fixes the problem.
