Nmbd errors & not starting since upgrade to 3.0.2a?
I have recently upgraded my Redhat 7.3 server to Fedora FC1 with all related updates. I also upgraded my samba version from 3.0.0 to 3.0.2a. It now seems that my nmbd daemon will not start & subsequently I cannot log in from any Windows client as the netbios server name PDC is not found I think. Before this problem started, I noticed that in order for my DNS ping requests from Windows clients to work I had to periodically restart the smb service every 4 hrs....

I just recently upgraded to opensuse 11.4.
basic smbd is running mostly fine (some name res-errors, login server missing, (can't connect to Domain service). Notably nmbd won't start due
to undefined symbols:

ldd -r shows a bunch of similar undefined symbols (shown further below).

SAMBA 3.0.22 unusual nmbd spawning
Hi,
we had upgraded our SAMBA PDC from 3.0.14 to 3.0.22 on a Gentoo system.
Now we have problems with peculiar spwaning of too many "nmbd" processes.
In smb.conf WINS support is activated, so I would expect two nmb
processes. But as you can see in the process list, during SAMBA is running
after some minutes another nmbd child is spawned. I tracked down the
problem to one example:

nmbd Problem
Hello,
I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36.
Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange
Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two
nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could
see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain).
smbclient -L server from server works fine. From another Samba-Box it does
not. After I just restarted samba I can see the shares from an NT box but I

nmbd processes hanging
Hello,
I have a Debian machine with samba 3.0.2a-1 (which should bei identical
to samba-latests, AFAIK). For a reason not yet known nmbd processes keep
hanging around forever, eating up memory slowly, but steadily.
Logfiles do not show anything suspicious (to me, at least, I don't want
to put a days level 10 log in here), except from things like

nmbd crash on z/800 64 bit RHEL v 3.0
Hi All;
I'm currently trying to expand my Samba env by including my IBM z/800
mainframe running 64 bit RHEL v3.0, CUPS printing environment into Samba.
When I start Samba, the nmbd dies almost immediately. Any insight would
be greatly appreciated.

The Samba-Server works as PDC since a month now and does it fine. But
one big problem still exists:
After about 10-20 hours after the start of smb+nmb the nmbd stops working.
The symtoms are:
No new users can login into the NT-Domain
but users who already logged in can still access the shares
Swat shows that the nmbd is not running (smbd and winbindd are still
running)
But the process-list from linux still shows that several

Manually expire duplicate netbios name
Hi!
Yesterday, after migrating to a new server, I accidentally started an

Since then, there are two netbios entries, even though the first host

Problems with big files, RHEL 4 Clone Samba 3.01014
...the server will be very slow.
ping ServerXX more than 2sec, the server is no longer available.
The interesting is, the system has only 0.2 CPU load
Starting again Samba alone is not sufficient.
Only a server restart helps.
I found that in the Samba log file.
