[Xen-users] Xen and Linux on Intel G33 needs kernel 2.6.19+
Dear, I''m looking to get Xen running on a system that (afterwards) seems a bit too new. The board has the Intel G33 chipset with the Intel ICH9 southbridge. This chipset is NOT supported by kernel 2.6.18 which ships with Xen 3.1.2 (and Debian Etch). So the question is: * What version of Xen to install to get going? Should I choose unstable? * What distribution will be the easiest to get started? (I got a custom Debian Etch with 2.6.23 kernel working). The system will be a server, so I care about stability and reliability. Does anyone have good advise? - Joris _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: [Xen-users] Xen and Linux on Intel G33 needs kernel 2.6.19+
You could just a distro that forward ports the Xen patches to a newer kernel version. Fedora does this, but may not be stable enough for your requirements. Ubuntu may do this too, but their Xen support isn''t as well developed as some other distros. Have you thought about trying a SuSE derivative? That might do what you want? However, I picked Gentoo and it worked as I desire, without any problems. So that looked good, but with significant effort to get it up and running. I think I will stick to this for the time being, even though Gentoo is not known for its stability... - Joris>On Thursday 29 November 2007, Joris Dobbelsteen wrote: >> >-----Original Message----- >> >From: lord2y@gmail.com [mailto:lord2y@gmail.com] On Behalf Of >> >Alessandro R. >> >Sent: Friday, 30 November 2007 0:24 >> >To: Joris Dobbelsteen >> >Subject: Re: [Xen-users] Xen and Linux on Intel G33 needs kernel >> >2.6.19+ >> > >> >2007/11/29, Joris Dobbelsteen <Joris@familiedobbelsteen.nl>: >> >> Dear, >> >> >> >> I''m looking to get Xen running on a system that >(afterwards) seems >> >> a bit too new. However, I''d note that if you''ve moved away from using server-specific OSes then Fedora might also fit the bill... Cheers, Mark -- Dave: Just a question. What use is a unicyle with no seat?
