Been running rock solid servers on Centos 3 and 4 for years but equipment is starting to die so it is time. I was thinking along the lines of an Intel Q6600 on an Asus P5K-VM mobo with the new G33 chipset utilizing SATA. Is anyone having success with this board or any of the G33 chipsets where I am not going to run into all kinds of install problems? I see these other threads of install problems with the new chipsets so are a bit leary of making the purchase without hearing of some success...

Hi All, I checked the on-line manual for the Supermicro C2SBC-Q (Intel Q35 chipset) and it has VT-d support. Hello, I'm trying to complete a minimal install of Centos 5.1 x86_64 on a Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz running on an Asus P5K-VM motherboard - yes, this means it's the G33 chipset. (you can stop laughing now) I'm installing to two SATA-disks setup with Software Raid-1. I've installed an Intel NIC that is detected during install and I'm able to complete the install itself - mind you I have to add acpi=off and/or pci=nommconf or else the installer freezes...

(a) Mark (mhr) suggested I buy a bare bones box, when I reported the problem with the mainboard in this Dell Dimension 2400 box. Possibly I can have the mainboard repaired (and the PSU, if it is also having problems), and if so, I will give this one to my Stepson and go the bare bones box route and have a more powerful box for myself.
