[Samba] printer does not print (stupid question : ( )
I know that maybe this is an stupid question, let me tell you a little bit: I am using my samba server as a file server and it is ok, but also want to use it as a printer server, I can see my installed printers in my windows domain, I also can set up my printer in my windows client but when I try to print something, this job goes through its spooler and then it seems to print, but it does not print anything. Whats going on??? I use CUPS as a unix printing system, I suppose I have to upload evey printer driver, thats true? On the other hand, I want to give privileges to my samba folders without having to change them with chmod 777 -R folder, every time I create one,do you know what I mean, I'd appreciate very much your help. I can't offer help on cups. If you despair and want to try lprng, I can offer more specific help. The difference between cups and lprng? I dunno, since I don't use cups. I have gotten the impression that cups is the new and improved printing system with more support for printers, etc, but as usual, you pay for this sort of improvement with increased complexity. If you are stuck with cups, you might install lprng and see if we can't solve your problem. I am fairly good with lprng (months of printing frustations lead me to learn a bit about it.) The main problem with linux printing is getting drivers. Joel On Mon, Apr 14, 2003 at 08:39:46AM -0500, Manuel_Casoluengo@cotyinc.com wrote:> > Excuse me but what's the difference??? >
http://www.lprng.com/ Here is a place. Which version of linux/unix are you using? You may have it on the cdrom that came with your distro. If using a debian based system, you might be able to get it very easily. Before getting into this much, first, what printer are you using? This will be the most important issue.
