LPRng: LPRng and Samba (fwd)
I'm looking for a little help with Samba and LPRng, however, the LPRng portion of it isn't really all that important -- I believe this is mainly a Samba issue. The problem here is that we have 4 campus servers. Each one hosts a Samba domain. Sometimes, users for whatever reason will go to a different campus (where they may or may not have an a...

LPRng and SAMBA
First of all, thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far resolving my samba problems! The latest has to do with LPRng and directory permissions. LPRng requires 0600 permissions on the spool directory, owner daemon group daemon. Whenever a user tries to print through SAMBA, they do not have write access to the spool directory, as teh job comes in user/group of the person who printed. Any ideas? The relevant entries...

Printing Problem with NT and Samba
Hi, My network has samba 2.2.2 installed on Sun with lprng and NT 4.0 workstations. Samba acts as PDC for these workstations. I am using priting through samba. I am using 'disable spoolss = yes' option which means the drivers are on installed on client side and are not downloaded from the server. So all these printers (on Samba) act as Local...

printing issues - lprng
Hi, I am running samba and lprng for 4 hp laserjets. Sometimes a samba print job goes to the wrong printer. Normally everything works just fine. Shown below is the lprng acct log file enries for the concerned print job. Please notice that the print job was supposed to go to hp4050-mail, but ended up in hp8100. Any suggestions are...

LPRng and Samba -- Still
...I think should work... but... doesn't. Take a look at the smb.conf man page: %u user name of the current service, if any. %U session user name (the user name that the client wanted, not necessarily the same as the one they got). ...so far so good. Well, LPRng handily includes a way to set who is printing the current job, by setting print command like the following: print command = /opt/LPRng/bin/lpr -P%p -U%U -J'%J' -r %s ...with -U being the important part. But what I can't figure out is is that %U is still the network guest user. Isn&...

printing with lprng
I recently set up samba-2.2.3a on FreeBSD 4.5-RELEASE. I'm having troubles getting printing to work. I have LPRng-3.76 installed, and it works just fine using the command line tools. When I print from a windows client over smb, however, I can see the job go into the spool directory, but then it magically vanishes, with nothing in any log files. Has anyone experienced this type of strange behavior? I'll...

LPR or LPRng or CUPS
I'm converting my NT 4.0 Print Servers to Samba Print Servers. Which printing system should I be using? LPR, LPRng or CUPS. I would love to have some feedback on the advantages and disadvantages or what the Samba Team recommends as a standard for working wih Samba. In case you need it, my system is SuSE 7 kernel 2.2.16 running under VM on s/390. Thanks, Josh Konkol, CNE MCSE Senior Network Analyst Guide...

Samba-3.0.0, LPRng-3.8.21 and printer queues
Hi! I have problem with finding my printerjobbs in sambas printer queue, I do se the jobb while it is in /var/spool/samba, but not when the job has been spooled to LPRngs spool. smb.conf [Global] printing = lprng lpq command = /usr/server/LPRng-3.8.21/bin/lpq -P%p print command = /usr/server/LPRng-3.8.21/bin/lpr -b -P%p <%s ;rm %s The printing job shows up in the LPRng queue e.i. /usr/server/LPRng-3.8.21/bin/lpq -Pprinter shows the job. Fwd: "Make_passthrough: pid XXXX, dup2(6, 0) failed" with LPRNG 3.8.C and Samba 4.3.8 on FreeBSD
(FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p4 i386, Lprng 3.8.C and Samba 4.3.8 installed via pkg()) I have set up a PDF converter queue that converts PS input to PDF and puts it on its website. Recently I had samba join the AD domain here, and ever since my pdf converter fails. Upon much trial, error and debugging I found out that when I start the Lprn...

CUPS vs lprng
Could I get some opinions on which type of Samba based printing is easier, CUPS or LPRNG, or just bybass Samba altogether. I'm looking at the Printing HOWTO by Kurt Pfeifle (Printing Support in Samba 3.0) and both look really complex. Anyone out there have any experience with printing services in Samba? Should I just stay away from samba printing and go direct to Network pri...

Samba printing with LPRng?
Has anybody ever used Samba with LPRng? I would like to write a wrapper for "lpq -l" which Samba will use to pass information back to Windows 95 and Windows NT clients. The information is all there, but it's obviously different from the standard BSD lpq. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike. ==============...

Bidirectional printers, LPRng, and Samba...
Does anyone have any hints or suggestions on getting some JetDirect-based printers set up for bidirectional printing in Samba? We're using LPRng 3.8.0, ifhp 3.4.7, and samba 2.2.2 From the LPRng standpoint, the printers seem to be set up for bidirectional communication fine.. but how do we get Samba to allow bidirectional communication? Thanks in advance! Glenn --- Glenn E. Sieb, System Administrator Lumeta Corp. mailto:ges@lumeta.com...

LPRng and Samba: Problems with print queue administration
Hi, could it be that recent versions of samba have some problems when collaborating with LPRng? I have a bunch of windows clients printing via Samba and LPRng and ran into the following problems: - In my environment it is desirable that people can kill other people's print jobs. LPRng is configured accordingly and works correctly. The corresponding Samba shares have no restrictions...

SAMBA 2.2.3a <-> LPRng 3.8.x
hi you all, I had this problem for a long time and with different versions of SAMBA and LPRng: using '/usr/spool/lp/bin/lpr -r -Fl -m%m -J"%J" -U%U -P%p %s' as 'print command' results in two jobs in the queue window on the NT box, though there is only one job in the unix queue. using '/usr/spool/lp/bin/lpr -r -Fl -m%m -U%U -P%p %s' works fine, but delete...
