Just an update and a prob.
i've got samba working like a dream. I don't know what is safe but
security
is share instead of user which made it all work. I see windows uses share
level aswell(i think) so im guessing that its ok to do so.
I've shared all the directories i wanted to which are two physical mounted
drives. had to figure out how to give a non-superuser privelages to write to
it but got it in the end.
Only problem is now... it is wierd for me but may make more sense to someone
else that may have come over it. Problem is i have three dirs shared(/,
/mnt/hdb and /mnt/hdd) and when creating a file in one of them the case is
fine(New Text Document.txt) but in another shared folder the case is set to
upper(NEW TEXT DOCUMENT.TXT) and the [share] things are pretty much
identical.
heres my smb.conf:
------------------------------------------
# Global parameters
workgroup = Home

(im not too advanced so if anyone reccomends me changing something please do
so)
purpose of samba:
got 3 laptops and a desktop in the house and just connecting up 2 spare hard
drives for backup folders.
clients are:
laptop1 = xp home
laptop2 = 98
laptop3 = 98se
.
samba server is running on rh 7.0 with the kernal that came with it and the
samba version that came with it.
(again not too advanced and don't know how to find it out.. one of the
things i havent gotten around to yet)
Any help is much appreciated..
Thanks in advance..
Kind Regards..
Paul
