unable to mount centos hard drive
I am considering changing my server from Ubuntu to Centos. I have been tinkering with a box that will eventually become a new server. I am having a problem. This box has two ide drives. Originally I had a Ubuntu desktop installed on hda and then added a Centos server installed on hdb. I wanted to try a different server configuration without overwriting the current install on hdb. With the server on hdb running, I mounted hda and copied some important files from the Ubuntu drive to the Centos drive. I installed a another instance of centos on hda and everything worked fine. Wi...

Formatting hdb?
Dear friends: Using Centos 5. I have two physical drives. During install, I made sure to check hdb as well as hda. Both were listed as partitions (which is correct). But my fstab file does not show hdb. How do I make sure that hdb has been formatted and is part of my file system. If hdb is not formatted, how do I format it, please. Sorry for the question. I am a newbie. d[sher at localhost...

HVMAssist BIOS boot device problem
Hello, The xm config option boot="c" is intended to boot from the "first" harddrive; however, the enumeration of harddrives is independent of device enumeration (hda|hdb|hdc|hdd), leading to unreliable boot device selection. Example A: I am building a Windows HVM appliance which performs file-system level operations over mounted NTFS volumes - for example a file-system level copy. hda is the boot disk of the appliance and contains a single active (bootable) pr...

Advice for dealing with bad sectors on /
All, Trying to figure out how to deal with, I assume, a dying disk that's unfortunately on / (ext3). HDB, a hard drive backup program
Hey all, I'm writing a tool: http://www.subspacefield.org/security/hdb/ It is very similar in some ways to rsync, except it's meant for backing up locally to removable HDDs, and it keeps metadata around when the HDD is removed. I figured I'd ping people here to see if they are interested in participating in the brainstorming sessions. I figure you know a lo...

recover data from linear raid
Hello, I had a scientific linux 3.0.4 system (rhel compatible), with 3 ide disks, one for / and two others in linear raid (250 gb and 300 gb each). This system was obsoleted so i move the raid disks to a new scientific linux 3.0.7 installation. However, the raid array was not detected ( I put the disks on the same channels and same master/lsave setup as in the previous setup). In fact

Setting CDROM parms
...l not burn DVDs unless I use hdparm to turn dma off. I bought that drive because it was a rare beige drive. Until I can find a decent DVD burner and/or get a Windows machine put together strictly for doing BIOS updates, running with dma disabled seems to be the best solution. Windows HVM hda & hdb both have active partitions - which one boots?
Hello, I have a Windows appliance which I would like to always boot using the active partition on disk 0 (hda). In operation this appliance is booted with one or more disks (hdb, hdc) which may or may not also contain an active (bootable) partition. In practice, if disk 1 (hdb) also contains an active partition, the appliance boots from disk 1 rather than disk 0. Is there a way to control this? Ordinarily the boot device would be set in BIOS. Any insight into this pr...

Adding zvols to a DomU
I''m trying to add extra zvols to a Solaris10 DomU, sv_113 Dom0 I can use virsh attach-disk <name> <zvol> hdb --device phy to attach the zvol as c0d1. Replacing hdb by hdd gives me c1d1 but then that is it. Being able to attach several more zvols would be nice but even being able to get at c1d0 would be useful Am I missing something or can I only attach to hda/hdb/hdd? Thanks John -- John Landamore...
