...pgrading one of my home servers, and I can no longer delete or
write files via Samba. I would very much appreciate assitance. I will
explain my situation and provide logs for the case of deleting a simple
file.
My configuration is to access my shares as a guest, which should be
mapped to the smbuser Linux account.
To achieve this I have set the following globally:
map to guest = Bad Password ## I added this after the upgrade, to replace "security = share"
guest ok = yes
guest account = smbuser
And the following on my share:

My situation
I am using VirtualBox. Windows 7 Home is the host. Fedora 13 is the guest.
My goal is to cause the Fedora guest to expose an smb share to the Win 7
host and have the Win 7 host mount the share as a drive.
My procedure...

smbusers and wildcards
It is my understanding that if you have a wildcard in smbusers, it
should only apply this if the particular users is not in your
/etc/password file. Is this true? It appears like samba is rolling
down the smbusers file and everything gets mapped to my wildcard user.
Eg.
smbusers:
root = administrator admin
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest

Any ideas.. or should I just forget SWAT [as in it's buggy]
and run the daemons manually? I've fought with this for
three days and I've had enough.

Created the user 'smbuser' w/ a home dir of /home/public

it]

problems mounting smbfs
I've spent the last 2 days trying to get smbfs to mount via fstab.
Using redhat 7.3 and the latest samba as of 7/17/02.
I can mount from the command line using smbmount as follows:
smbmount //localhost/wwwshare /smbwww -o username=smbuser,password=xxxxxxxx
I can not mount from the command line using:
mount -t smbfs -o username=smbuser,password=xxxxxxxx //localhost/wwwshare /smbwww
The following error is returned when trying to use the 'mount' command as stated above:
execvp of smbmnt failed. Error was No such file or direc...

Another effect is that while viruses can't change/infect files in the

see. Ugh.
How do I set this up correctly?

Cannot Get Samba to Work Without Encrypted Password with Legacy Client
Hi there,
I have looked for a solution to my problem on the Internet (and in particular this mailing list), but couldn't find one, probably due to searching for the wrong thing :-)
I have an RPI running Samba version 4.9.5-Debian. "pdbedit -L" shows that the user "smbuser" exists. I used "smbpassword" to set the password of "smbuser". I also have several "old" computers that I want to connect to this RPI using Samba. I managed to get an Amiga connected to the Samba server, by adding the directive "ntlm auth = yes" to &quo...

Group permission problems [RESEND]
Hello all,
Re-sending due to incorrect mapping of linefeeds from hotmail.
I'm having an issue with group permissions.
I have created a group called smbusers which I have added myself to,
with the following commands:
# groupadd smbusers
# usermod -G smbusers michael
I then create a directory called foodir, owned by adm with group
smbusers. Permissions are correct (770) but I cannot access the
directory. When I change permissions to 777, I can acces...

smbpasswd and /etc/samba/smbusers
Hi,
I've been Googling around trying to found why I can't make SAMBA
(concretely smbpasswd and pdbedit) make good use of the information
held in the file /etc/samba/smbusers. I have done a clean install of
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4.1 Update 3 (both x86_64 and IA32) and
Fedora Core 5. In all cases, running the following command fails:
# smbpasswd -a Administrator
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
