Hello, We are going to buy some NFS storage for 6-8 VMs on a single host, but want to expand to a second host. What storage recommendations would you give if you have between 2000 and 5000 USD? How about nexenta? what hardware would you use? any vendor? Experiences with openfiler and opennas? Thanks for the responses. Build your own box, install linux and AOE on it, then you get SAN which will give you much better performance. I added the modprobe aoe statement to the proper init level and added the drives to fstab. (not really in that order). It has been running like a champ for about 6 months with no intervention at all other than to do security/bug yum updates. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I have used Openfiler for iSCSI some years (it ran 2 years without reboot or error, 742 days up ;-). Very stable and easy to configure. Now we use Fibrechannel and manage it with Open-e. The only Management-Software I found with Support for FC. I also tried freeNAS. But it is not based on Linux, that''s why I prefer Openfiler.> Thanks for the responses. > > > Daniel > > > -- > +-=====---------------------------+ > | +---------------------------------+ | This space intentionally blank > for notetaking. > | | | Daniel Castro, | > | | | Consultant/Programmer.| > | | | U Andes | > +-------------------------------------+ > > _______________________________________________ > Xen-users mailing list > Xen-users@lists.xensource.com > http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users_______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
I would recommend building a ZFS style storage solution. You could use the free Nexenta Community Edition as the software. Nexenta Community Edition now allows for up to 18TB of storage. Here is an article from a year ago at Anandtech about building your own ZFS storage: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3963/zfs-building-testing-and-benchmarking -----Original Message----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of Daniel Castro Sent: Friday, September 23, 2011 6:50 AM To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com Subject: [Xen-users] Storage Recommendations Hello, We are going to buy some NFS storage for 6-8 VMs on a single host, but want to expand to a second host. It''s a Shame that the openfiler folks have seemingly allowed the product to get a bad name with a lot of people in the opensource community. Its a great solution with a ton of features but it has some really weird bugs. You''ll need to purchase Nexenta''s highly expensive "High Availability" module in order to have 2 ZFS servers with the domU''s sync''ed between them. -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers SoftDux Website: http://www.SoftDux.com Technical Blog: http://Blog.SoftDux.com Office: 087 805 9573 Cell: 082 554 7532 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
