I built a new box for home use, it is an ASUS M5A99X EVO 990X, the CPU is the 1075T 3.0Ghz AM3. I have 16 gigs of 1333 RAM, it is Patriot brand non - ECC. The disk is a 1TB Western Digital SATA II 3.0 mbps. I am using a USB DVD drive to do the install When I attempt to install either a generic CentOS install, it gives a Kernel panic and dies, the error says something about CPU0 and it reboots after 5 seconds. If I try to install either XCP or XenServer, I get simular issues. Has anyone had any experience with this CPU or MOBO, or both? It has some switches on the board for TPU/EPU, though even after reading on this link - http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A99X_EVO/#overview I am unsure as to what they really do. I tested the drive and memory in another system (Intel Core i3) and they work just fine, video card is an ATI 512 meg low end PCI-e. I tried disabling USB 3.0, the onboard NIC and something else that starts with a "C" (sorry, not in front of it and can''t remember!) Any help would be greatly appreciated! -- Scott _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I''m using 1090s, 16 GB of ram, 1 TB Samsung drives. My motherboard is an MSI 890GX based board and everything works wonderfully. My suggestion would be to try to install *anything else on it. How about an Ubuntu install just to see if it works. If Ubuntu doesn''t install you have a hardware problem (or at least it''s more likely). Thanks Grant, I just tried loading Ubuntu 11.04 and got the following error twice and then it stops: modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.35-22-generic/modules.dep: no such file or directory Hmmm...I am off to pick up another MOBO and see if that fixes it. If not, I am pretty much at a loss. I used to be quite the hardware guy, but that was years ago, I build PCs on a fairly regular basis, but normally when I see some really odd behavior it has been a bad power supply. Maybe I will pick up one of those while I am at Fry''s as well...actually, seeing as I am going to Fry''s, I may need to pick up three of each, usually I end up finding the one bad thing no matter what I am buying! :o) I will update the list when I figure it out, maybe it will help someone else. The motherboard has some very specific memory configuration requirements. Specific brands/models of memory are supported, but must be in specific DIMM counts, so some memory is supported only in 2 (1 pair) DIMMS and others only in 4 (2 pair) DIMMS. What a pain in the ass! I haven''t seen memory requirements so specific since the days of Compaq servers! Scott -- Never wrestle with a pig. I will check it out this evening and let you know. This board is way more complicated than I had anticipated.
