Odd behavior on Phenom II X6

The disk is a 1TB Western Digital SATA II 3.0 mbps. Motherboard for home zfs/solaris file server
Hello, I am building a home file server and am looking for an ATX mother board that will be supported well with OpenSolaris (onboard SATA controller, network, graphics if any, audio, etc). I decided to go for Intel based boards (socket LGA 775) since it seems like power management is better supported with Intel processors and power efficiency is an important factor. After reading several

Current best AMD processor for running mainstream games?
Hi all, I want to buy a processor that will be good for gaming in Wine in FreeBSD. I see that many game engines are starting to take advantage of multi-core systems, however it appears that multi-threaded applications are not distributed properly across multiple cores (Ex: Starcraft II - http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20882 ). So I'm not sure if I should aim

Mass Effect 2 bug 23135
...2 6000+, and I have trouble with bug 23135, Mass Effect 2 hangs/crashes after Sheppard is reanimated. Dan Kegel is thinking of closing the bug under suspicion that it's a game glitch, now a wine problem, and some posts on the bioware forums seem to back him up. I am thinking of upgrading to an AM3 955, but first I'd like to know if it'll have any effect at all. Also, I am running an NVIDIA 260 video card, and Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. Thanks. I'd post on the Bioware or Lucasarts forums, but as soon as you mention linux, well...

IOMMU and AMD 890fx
Hi, All the reviews for the AMD 890fx chipset reported that it supports IOMMU v1.2. But I cannot find any mention of that on AMD site. Does 890fx support IOMMU? Do 890fx motherboards with IOMMU exist? Does Xen support 890fx? help installing Rmpi
...k. I am not sure if I am even installing openMPI correctly in linux. I would really like to get Rmpi to work so that I can take advantage of libraries that use Rmpi and more importantly reduce my computation time from several days to maybe a day. I am using fedora 11 (64-bit) on a AMD phenom III (AM3) system and I am not an expert at linux so I run into trouble compiling and installing software out of inexperience. I would truly appreciated it if someone could please provide me with some instructions on how to get openMPI installed correctly on Fedora11 and Rmpi to work? I have included the pro...

Xen PCI/VGA passthrough failing on Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit)
I''ve been trying to set up a VGA-passthrough on my Ubuntu 12.04 box to run Windows (for gaming) while leaving my RAID-5 array available (managed by Linux). First, here are the machine specs: CPU: AMD A8-3870K 3.4GHz Quad-Core APU GPU: APU-integrated AMD Radeon 6550 (shared memory) Mobo: ASUS F1A75-V EVO with AMD-virtualization enabled in UEFI-BIOS RAM: 8GB DDR3 1866 G-Skill Sniper

ntpd under Xen Dom0 exhibits extremely high jitter/noise? runs stable/quiet under non-xen kernel.
On a selection of boxes, ntpd running in Xen Dom0 reproducibly exhibits extermely high noise/jitter. Switching back to -default, non-xen kernel ntpd runs with very low jitter/noise. Question -- how can I ''tame'' ntpd noise & jitter when running in Dom0? Is the problem a config issue, or a bug? Already reported this downstream; everybody''s "stumped".
