USB-3.0 on C6.5 ??
Just wondering if there are any known issues with USB 3.0 storage devices in Centos 6.5?? I just got one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332028 it does either esata or USB 3.0. My new motherboard (ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0) supports both, so I've tried both (of course, can't have a feature without at least giving it a whirl! :)). esata seems to work fine, I can copy gigs 'n gigs of data to it using the esata connection. however, with USB3 it works for a bit then something goes wonky... After cop...

Odd behavior on Phenom II X6
I built a new box for home use, it is an ASUS M5A99X EVO 990X, the CPU is the 1075T 3.0Ghz AM3. I have 16 gigs of 1333 RAM, it is Patriot brand non - ECC. The disk is a 1TB Western Digital SATA II 3.0 mbps. I am using a USB DVD drive to do the install When I attempt to install either a generic CentOS install, it gives a Kernel panic and dies, the...

plug in phones, speaker does not mute.
Hi all! Using C6 on an Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 motherboard with AMD six core FX6300. That board uses Realtek ALC892 audio chipset. For the first time since I got that motherboard I tried plugging in headphones to the front panel speaker output. I was somewhat displeased to note that the speakers don't mute when that happens. I re...

Kernel 2.6.32-358.14.1.el6 boot fail
Hello All: I installed 2.6.32-358.14.1.el6.centos.plus.x86_64 today and had some boot issues. After rebooting, the system locked immediately after the Asus motherboard logo. I thought at first that it was a hardware issue because it didn't appear that grub even loaded. I wasn't even able to get into the BIOS to change the boot order so it appeared that it was a hardware issue. I reset

AMD IOMMU disabled - No Perdev Intremap
Hi! From other people posting to this list, I know that there has been a bug related to the issue described in Xen Security Advisory 36 that disables iommu for some AMD users like me. However, even when passing "iommu=no-amd-iommu-perdev-intremap" it still disables i/o virtualisatoin. Related Xen dmesg output: (XEN) IVHD Error: Invalid IO-APIC 0 (XEN) AMD-Vi: Error initialization

Centos-compatible motherboards
Hi all! I'm toying with the idea of spending some Christmas money on a new MB and CPU to upgrade my desktop. Although I've always been partial to AMD chips, I'm tempted this time to find something Intel-ish, I5, quad core, or so. In looking at mommyboards at New Egg and Amazon, I find so many I am unable to make reasonable determinations regarding suitability, so am hoping some of

I'm sure the UPS got plugged into a different port one of the (many) times the server was removed from the relay rack, and it was on a USB 3.0 port. I moved it to a 1.0 port and everything seems to be working just fine. The specifics of the motherboard and its USB

Lockups with kernel-2.6.32-358.0.1.el6.i686
I updated my home server with the 6.4 CR packages, and I've experienced 3 or 4 hard lockups since. The server is a fanless VIA C7 "CentaurHauls" system with a 1GHz CPU underclocked to 800MHz and 1GB of RAM. It has a dual-port Intel 82546GB NIC in its single PCI slot. (It also has an on-board Realtek RTL-8110SC/8169SC NIC that is plugged in, but doesn't currently have an IP

CentOS-7 on a USB stick
I tried dd-ing the ISO onto a USB stick, as suggested in <http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7>, but it didn't boot. Did anyone have better luck with this? In any case, I got it working by running livecd-iso-to-disk on a Fedora-20 laptop. I've found before that this is the best program around for the purpose. But I've 2 queries about this: 1. Why isn't this

Any experiences with newer WD Red drives?
Might be slightly OT as it isn't necessarily a CentOS related issue. I've been using WD Reds as mdraid components which worked pretty well for non-IOPS intensive workloads. However, the latest C7 server I built, ran into problems with them on on a Intel C236 board (SuperMicro X11SSH) with tons of "ata bus error write fpdma queued". Googling on it threw up old suggestions to

motherboard for cents 6.3
Seems like overnight every motherboard that worked with linux has DROPPED off the face of the earth. Every motherboard I looked at is using the realtek 8111 chipset and a northbridge that is not supported. Example: GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3, does not work with linux I tried disabling the onboard NIC and using a PCI-E intel card I always use and that would not work either. The north or south bridge
