[Xen-users] Problemes about Windows virtualization (memory, CPU)
Hello, I have some questions about Windows virtuzalisation on XEN. I currently ran some test on Windows'' VM (Server 2003 mostly) for my job. But I can''t make some of my expectations which could be useful for my prod environment. Here are my questions: - Is it possible to have more than 2048Mo of memory per Windows VM with a 32bits CPU ? - Is it possible to have multiple CPU under a virtual Windows ? During my tests, I couldn''t make works the VM with more than 2048Mo (while I got 5Go memory in my domU). For the Multiple CPU on Windows, if I set acpi and/or apic to 1 my windows VM freeze when booting it (with vcpus and cpu set properly). If I doesn''t set these options during the installation and I set them after, it doesn''t change anything. You may have some ideas .. My test machine is a bi-xeon E5410 , with 10Go memory , Debian Etch, xen i386 2.6.18.6, xen 3.0.3.1. (Only Debian packages) I have one other question about converting a VMware Windows image to XEN. I read this article :http://ian.blenke.com/vmware/vmdk/xen/hvm/qemu, but, when I boot the final image, it doesn''t work, I''ve got the famous blue screen. Any ideas ? Thanks a lot for your answers. I believe 3.0.3 had some known limitations wrt acpi and apic and general stability. 3.2.0 works great for me. I''m running Lenny on another Dom0 too (Lenny has 3.2.1) and it seems perfectly stable. Re: [Xen-users] Problemes about Windows virtualization (memory, CPU)
Hi, I try at home, and it''s look great. I''ve got 2 cpu on my windows guest. I didn''t try for the memory, but I will on Monday. (I doesn''t have a bi-xeon and 10gb RAM at home :)). I tried with an etch, backports xen3.2. Do you have any ideas about migration from VMware to XEN. Today I read this thread, http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2008-06/msg00900.html, but I don''t understand why he could makes it works and I couldn''t !! The only thing I didn''t do, is to transfer my qemu-img converted image to a block device like /dev/... I still have a blue screen which say : Do CHKDSK .... , I tried to do it from the installation CD, section repair but it doesn''t change anything. Thanks for your answers, and your ideas ..
