live migration in between different CPU families
Hi, referring to thread: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/xen/users/177385#177385. I have the same thing going on: hypervisors with E5620 Xeon CPUs and hypervisors with E5410 CPUs. Live migrations go wrong when domU''s are not created on the latter and move from the E5410 servers to more recent ones. The rationale being that these CPU''s have less or other capabilities than the newer ones. Is there any way to work around this? Thx, B. ___________...

Dell Latitude E5410 doesn't boot my USB thumbnail
Hi there, I have a 512MB USB thumbnail which I used syslinux to create a bootable USB disk. It works fine with my old laptop and a few other computers. However, on my Dell Latitude E5410, it doesn't really work; when the Dell laptop boots, I pressed F9 to see the boot devices list and the thumbnail is not on the list. Some hints please? x -- [?] Please notice that v9 at dr.com is no longer accessible. [?] Backup email: xianwen.chen at yahoo.com

Problemes about Windows virtualization (memory, CPU)
...U on Windows, if I set acpi and/or apic to 1 my windows VM freeze when booting it (with vcpus and cpu set properly). If I doesn''t set these options during the installation and I set them after, it doesn''t change anything. You may have some ideas .. My test machine is a bi-xeon E5410 , with 10Go memory , Debian Etch, xen i386 2.6.18.6, xen 3.0.3.1. (Only Debian packages) I have one other question about converting a VMware Windows image to XEN. I read this article :http://ian.blenke.com/vmware/vmdk/xen/hvm/qemu, but, when I boot the final image, it doesn''t work, I&...

guest vms crash host systems
...ing the host. There is no networking. No X. No way to drop out of X. The only way out is a hard reboot. I don't see anything in the logs -- messages or libvirt logs -- immediately before the crash. I haven't found anything like this on the web or on this list. The workstation has two xeon E5410s. I noticed that both the kvm-amd and kvm-intel modules are loaded, but don't know if that would cause a problem. I had an ati firepro graphics card in the machine, but suspected that might be the source of some conflict, and I put in an Nvidia card. The vm's were built with all the defaul...

CPU Model detection with virsh capabilities
...discovering libvirt with KVM software. During my first VM creation, I saw an issue with virsh that I can't understand. I wanted to emulate another CPU than the classical qemu32 using virsh. So I used the virsh capabilites command to detect how is detected my CPU host which is an Intel Xeon E5410 and my problem is that this CPU is detected only with the cpumodel "pentium3". But if use the kvm -cpu ? command, it returns me the following capabilities : $ kvm -cpu ? x86 qemu64 x86 phenom x86 core2duo x86 kvm64 x86 qemu32 x86...

But I’m not finding a way to present this two socket server as such to the guest, rather than an 8-socket system. Running XCP 0.5.0 on a Dell PE2950 with dual E5410 Xeon processors. Thanks! ...single physcial nic. > I've about 7 VM in same server with 6 using the same nic and there is no problem, you only have to keep in mind the hardware requirements and nic bandwith. About hardware, I've a fs on a separate physical machine with 4GB RAM (3GB cached) , an Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5410 @ 2.33GHz and a RAID10. About the VM recomendations, i've the AD on a Debian 7 VM with 386MB RAM, 15GB of HDD space, 512MB of swap and 2 VCPUs. 1GB of Swap is recommended (I've to change my server swap). You need a good drive performance for FS then i don't know if is a good idea to us...

hardware sizing and configuration
Understanding that a samba 4.x ADDC should be run on a an os separate than a samba 4. file server, I was thinking of virtualizing both. Is it common to have a single physcial server with two VM's running samba? If some is there a recommendation on how much hardware to start with and how much virtual hardware to give each VM. I'm wondering about virtual nics and if there may be a

Everything is running on the 64 bit versions. The actual hardware for VMware is a dual processor machine with two Xeon E5410 processors, each with four cpu cores and 32 GB of ram. The difference in the two virtual machines is that one is running db2 version 9.7.1 and the other is running db2 version 10.5.5. The error occurs while restoring a backup taken on another server to the test server in question. Worse than tha...

Xen system hang or freeze
Hi all, This is my first post to the list, I hope someone out there can help! I am running xen 3.0.3, with CentOS 5.2 based Dom0 (kernel-xen-2.6.18-92.1.22.el5) Recently I have noticed some complete system lockups on a few different servers. Neither Dom0 or any of the guests respond to pings, connecting a keyboard and monitor to the system only shows a blank screen. Nothing is written to logs
