I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04 on dual boot. I have applications of course on Windows 7, which I can run in Ubuntu using Wine. However, I can also install applications specifically for Wine/Linux. Is there a difference in performance, if the application is installed with Wine instead of on Windows 7? Does it perform better on Linux, or is it the same?

Some applications -- those that rely on registry entries or DLLs created by their installer -- won't work if you run the copy you installed on Windows. The workaround is to copy over the missing bits, but it's easier to just run the installer in Wine.
