[vorbis] Vorbis in Windows Media Player 9, (partial) success
As I said on http://wiki.xiph.org/ClientSupport I managed to get WMP9 under Windows 2003 to work with OGG vorbis files. Requisite : OggDS 0.9.9.5 - they can be opened with the Open... dialog and WMP does not complain any more that it is an unsupported file format - they can be dragged from explorer into WMP and WMP will play them without any complaint - they can be added to the media library. Small problem, they show up under "Other Media" instead of "Music files" How to do it ? Tweak the registry : --BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE TWEAKING !!-- - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT - add additional .ogg info ( use others existing types as a guide, like AIFF ) - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\MPlayer2 ( this is for WMP 6.4, but it seems it plays a role for WMP9 too ... ) - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\WMPlayer In the these two parts, also add as much OGG info as possible, use existing types as a guide. I will try to sort out the mess what my registry became and send what exactly I changed. Until then, somebody find someone who actually knows what those registry entries mean at all ;-) Regards, David Balazic ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- David Balazic mailto:david.balazic@hermes.si HERMES Softlab http://www.hermes-softlab.com Zolajeva 30 Phone: +386 2 450 8851 SI-2000 Maribor Slovenija ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- "Be excellent to each other." - Bill S. There was a registry patch put together by Jason Patterson which I found in the archives a while ago, when dealing with this problem myself. It contains a fair few entries.
