I will try to sort out the mess what my registry became and send what

Pessimism
...the GIF is both smaller AND better ?
JPEG is for natural pictures ( like photos ) ,
whil GIF is for "technical" pictures ( text and object that have
simple color, without gradients ).
JPEG beats GIF on natural,
GIF beats JPEG on technical.
... and PNG is better than GIF :-)

I _believe_ ogg/vorbis can support multichannel sound.
It also supports real spatial (3D, AC3 is only 2D) sound.
None of this is actually available right now , AFAIK.

Unix media system
...o interleaves (AVI)? One thing I think such a system should do
is keep the codecs independent from framing formats, so that as long as
there's an MPEG 4 decoder module available it doesn't matter if it's AVI
or Ogg framed (or framed in any other fashion).

M/S encoding ?
...Hz signal.
In short : M/S mode might consider parts of music masked, that would
not be masked in regular stereo mode.
This seems wrong to me, alltough is is possible that the brain would do
this masking itself.
So what is the comment of experts here ?
Forgive me if I posted non-sense :-)

R 2.0.1 and Rggobi install issues on windows XP
Has anyone else ran into problems installing Rggobi with R 2.0.1 on a
windows platform? I've followed all the instructions available and I
still can not get R to recognize Rggobi as a library (package). I
I've already emailed Duncan Temple Lange at ggobi.org and bell labs
and both emails have bounced back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OS X proxy question
All,
I'm currently using R 2.0.1 on a Powerbook G4 with OS X 10.3.8. So far
the only way I've found to set my proxy is by doing
Sys.putenv("http_proxy"="<insert proxy url>:<proxy port>) everytime I
start up R.
This works fine, but I'd like to find a solution that doesnt require
manual input everytime I start up R. Does any one have a better way of

Any encoding speedups ?
Hi!
I think some more speed at encoding would be very welcome.
So, is there any work on faster vrobis encoders ?
For x86 ( windows, linux ) platform ?
Currently I use OggDrop , which uses ogg library 1.0final, on
Pentium III 866 MHz and Athlon 900 MHz.
