[Shorewall-devel] rsync server and mirror hosting, plans of action, etc.
Hello, I have been hosting the primary www.shorewall.net mirror for over three years now (if I estimate right) and I would like to continue to provide what I can. I also have a server with no limits on a DSL line that should be 1mbit uplink (for serving). The server on the DSL would be suitable for a primary rsync server. The primary mirror server is doing fine (staying neatly within the transfer plan I pay for) with the current www.shorewall.net load. I can administer the dsl server to provide most any service, I would be reluctant to give anyone root access, but admin accounts for any of mail, rsync, cvs, ftp, shell accounts, etc, I am happy to provide within reason. I do have some free time this summer and can take over the setup of any service needed, but mailing list moderation, or other loaded interactive roles I can not give much time to, but anyone else could take on these roles. So, Tom, Mike Noyes, others, let me know what might need to be run, what type of access is needed, what types of apps are needed, and I can provide it. I did see Tom''s email about scripts for HTML export, etc, I will look more closely at that. Last, someone needs to take an authoritative position and dictate what is going to happen, maybe let the devel list moderate, then execute a plan, because I can see that a lot of offers and ideas bouncing back and forth on the email are nice, but not necessarily problem solving. To start this authoritative stance, I will continue to host the primary mirror (comments?). I will also host the rsync host, if Tom does not want to, if I can get an understanding of what aside from pushing rsync this box will need to do (comments?). And again, thanks Tom. Last, how is your head Mike? Thanks, Alex Martin http://www.rettc.com
