FAQ Wiki
It has been asserted that the use of CVS for maintaining the Shorewall
documentation has been a barrier to community participation. To test this
theory, Alex Martin has created a Wiki
(http://wiki.rettc.com/wiki.phtml?title=Wiki_Shorewall_FAQ) and with
the help of Mike Noyes Alex has populated the Wiki with the Shorewall FAQ.
Feedback is welcome.

Shorewall FAQ Wiki Online, nearly complete...
Hello,
Mike Noyes and myself have populated http://wiki.rettc.com with the
shorewall FAQ.
This wiki is running MediaWiki, http://www.mediawiki.org.
Currently, a couple items are not complete.
I have just begun a heavy semester of mathematics/physics studies, and
do not have much time to give to this.
But, it is online, and seems to be stable. I will keep an eye out for
abuse, and limit

RFC: Shorewall wiki is going down!
Hello,
In reference to http://wiki.rettc.com/wiki.phtml?title=Wiki_Shorewall_FAQ ;
Well, after a lot of emails I setup a wiki for shorewall, etc.
It has proved to be completely useless. I have noticed one slight distro
specific example added, a couple typo additions and fixes, otherwise,
all contributions have been in excess (Tom...), or in malign.
For my uses it has proven of little use as

Shorewall Documentation Updates, Request for Input
Hello,
I have the go ahead to fix documentation. For starters I will clean all
extraneous crap from the markup. Then fix any errors and typos.
If anyone sees any gramatical errors or typos or needed clarifications or
expansions or whatever, please post them here.
Or additional FAQ entries, etc, all will be considered.
I hope to keep most of this conversation on the shorewall-devel list.

RE: Setting up a routed DMZ -CLOSED
My sincere apologies to all on this list. After looking for returning
packets with tcpdump and not finding ANY I called our provider to
confirm our IP assignment. The IP range that I was given by my boss was
incorrect. After adjusting the ip assignments, everything is working
perfectly. Thank you all for your time in troubleshooting this, and I
hope to be able to return the favor at some

Is is possible to do "shorewall reject 1.1.1.1 tcp 25"
Hello,
Is is possible to do "shorewall reject 1.1.1.1 tcp 25" ?
So I can dynamically blacklist offensive smtp senders, but only have
shorewall reject certain types (smtp) traffic from them?
Thanks,
Alex Martin

pthread_cancel error
Hello,
I get the following error when I kill icecast. I am running icecast2 from
source on a debian unstable box. I have looked around google and tried a
couple of suggestions like moving and linking the libgcc library around,
without any luck.
"libgcc_s.so.1 must be installed for pthread_cancel to work?"
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Alex Martin

Well the fact that VIM is supported by Docbook is a plus .. But I still
think the Wiki idea is well .. Lets get the doc at a CVS and Docbook
stage .. Walking before running .. plz plz ..

Setting up a routed DMZ
Hello all,
I''ve read the shorewall guides and browsed through the mailing
lists, but I haven''t been able to find out if the following is possible
or not using shorewall.
Our provider has given us 16 IPs + 4 in a separate range for our uplink.
I would like to replace that router with a Linux box running shorewall
with three interfaces. I want the DMZ to be a standard, routed

Re: [Shorewall-newbies] Re: Shorewall-newbies Digest; Problems with blacklist and nat !
Hello,
I have forwarded this to the shorewall-users list.
You will find better support for this obscure problem there.

Alex Martin

Request for Kazaa Info input into Shorewall Wiki
Hello,
I have been maintaining, well watching, no real maintenance yet, the
shorewall wiki (http://wiki.rettc.com/wiki.phtml?title=Wiki_Shorewall_FAQ)
and though its evolution is slow, there is definitely evolution. Maybe it
will become useful yet.
I looked at this recent post:

Here someone has requested help for Kazaa.

Which Distro to use?
Hello, I''m looking for a low-bloat distro that will have support for
multiple service providers (DSL & Cable)
FreeSWAN VPN, and other kernel patches applied.
Something fairly quick and simple.
I was origonaly thinking Slackware or Debian.
I''d prefer something that is easily updatable (i.e. cron job) without
having to deal with source.
Thanks Guys.
Rich.

RE: Shorewall Wiki
Good post Alex, I agree that all the talk of Wiki and FAQ''s are getting off
topic from what the main problem is... Tom dealing with questions already
answered in the faq. The documentation there is already very good. I also
think that shorewall-newbies is probably not the best way to go. The idea of
shorewall-developers (Tom and those that want to be included) and

RSS News Feed
Tom,
Can you/someone get a news feed setup for shorewall announcements? If
not, I''ll have to make use of the shorewall rss feeds at SF.
Project RSS Feeds: shorewall

BTW, planetplanet.org has links to some cool feeds.

Trustix 2.1 & shorewall
I have upgraded to trustix 2.1 (kernel 2.4.25-2trfirewall), there is a
problem with shorewall (both 1.4.10d and 2.0) and iptables 1.2.9-2tr
when I start shorewall I have the following errror:
iptables v.1.2.9: Unknown arg ''--icmp-type''
Try ''iptables -h'' or ''iptables --help'' for more information
with trustix 2.0 (kernel 2.4.25-2trfirewall)

FYI: Simple Small Asterisk install..
Hi,
If anyone is looking for a small Asterisk installation I have managed to
get it down to 296MB (If you remove the kernel source code.. could
probably be made smaller if some of the devel packages and asterisk
source is removed as well.)
To do it I used Trustix Secure Linux 2.0 (http://www.trustix.net), did a
minimum install with ssh support(92MB) and then added the required
packages
