Hi guys, I wanna know if somebody as already did this. Attach a LDAP server to Samba to authenticate Users that are connecting to this samba server. My wish is that I can replace soon the Windows Server 2000 we have by a free alternative. In case that no ones as done this thing, is it preferable to wait for Samba4 Release and have a true implementation on a DC server in Samba !! -- Sam

I have been using samba + LDAP for many years. John

Where do you see the message we> post to the mailling list. Can we see the discussion of other people in the > mailling list. I'm a little bit confused about that :P. > I am subscribed to the list so all the posts go to my gmail account. You can also view the arcives here: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/ but I rarely do that since my gmail account has every message sent to the list for at least the last year... John -- John M. My wish isIt's possible; we are running some Samba servers with LDAP acting as DC in our network. At the smbldap-tools site you have an excellent guide, and the Samba HOWTO is a great source of knowledge.> that I can replace soon the Windows Server 2000 we have by a free > alternative. Greets
you can use samba to authenticate users in an LDAP database, but it uses an NT4 style domain. for true active directory support you'll have to wait for samba 4.
