I'm currently using Samba 2.2.5 on a Mandrake 8.0 box with cups 1.1.4. I have several printers shared that are accessed from winNT/2k/xp boxes. When I right click on the printer or select printer properties, or go to print from any of those other boxes, the response is slower than molasses. I have an identical machine running WinNT Workstation that was previously our print server. It is much much faster. Where should I start looking to diagnose the problem? I have tried several modes already. Security = share with full permissions for everyone, no authentication, guest only, seems to be the fastest, but it's still too slow to put into production. -Larry

Check the logging level as well and try not to connect as a printer admin unless you have to. Certain drivers exhibit this behavior more than others. PCL driver seem to suffer from it the most. cheers, jerry --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hewlett-Packard http://www.hp.com SAMBA Team http://www.samba.org -- http://www.plainjoe.org "Sam's Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours" 2ed. hrm.. I guess running at log level 10 would slow it down a bit. Thank you. Another random question. Is there a clean way to get rid of printer drivers that were installed from a winXX machine that I no longer need? I don't want to accidentally ice the drivers I am using though.> -Larry Engleman > The Burgiss Group > 201-795-5144-----Original Message----- From: Gerald Carter [mailto:jerry@samba.org] Sent: Friday, July 26, 2002 12:09 PM To: Larry Engleman Cc: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Re: [Samba] Slow driver properties?
