Print spooler dies?
I am using samba 2.2.5 and cups 1.1.4 as a print server.
Everything is working well, except occasionally the spooler
service on my user's machines will randomly die. This
happens across platforms (2k, NT, XP) and never happened
with the same drivers/setup on the WinNT print server that
I have just replaced. I've attached a link to my setup file.
Let me know if you have any ideas.

Has anyone seen this before?
I'm using samba and cups to allow NT/2k machines to print to an HP LaserJet
4000N printer. The printer works fine except for one in house program. In
this one program, all the horizontal lines that should be printed are
missing. Originally I thought this was a driver problem, but today, for no
apparent reason, it started printing the horizontal lines... but only for
the first page of each

Please Help. Samba as PDC and printing
Hi !
I hate to do this but I'm close to get crazy about printing with samba.
I have a samba server ver 2.2.5 running as a domain controler.
The domain logon works fine, I've created the computer account by hand for
testing and it is great. The problem is with printing.
I've created the [print$] share all the directories in this share like

PCL vs. PCL 6
I am currently using samba to try and replace a windows NT box
as the default print server. All is working well except for
one printer driver. All drivers were installed from a win2k
machine onto the samba print$ share.
The problem that I'm having is with a driver for the HP laser
jet 4000N printer. The PCL driver works and loads quickly.
The PCL 6 driver works, but the properties

If in [global] <guest ok = yes> why do I get an authe ntication sc reen when accessing from NT box?
To force guest access to a share, you need both
guest ok = yes
guest only = yes
Otherwise it will try and authenticate you first before
dropping you to guest. If this doesn't work, possibly
you don't have a valid guest account set. If no account
is set as the guest account (on the linux machine) it will
use the user "nobody".

Samba/Cups Newbie question...
Hi,
I think that this is more a Samba query than a Cups one, as far as I can
tell from the
documentation anyway... I am running samba-2.2.5-1 and cups-1.1.16, I
have these
installed and working correctly... I have 50+ PC's (mixture of WinNT,
Win2k, WinXP
and Win9x/ME) printing to 6 queues on the server, 5 of these are RAW
queues printing
via lpd and ipp, and the other is a socket

Simple and Stupid Share...
Hullo, All...
I have HPUX 10.20 with SaMBa 2.2.3a installed... All I want to do is
make a single share with read only access for everybody, no matter the
user people are using, in other words, they don't need to have the user
on the server side.
I tried to setup, with no success. Anybody knows something?
Thanks...

Printing:access denied.
Hello All.
I'm using Windows 2000 prof on a NT domain with samba as the PDC. The printer is connected to the samba server via a usb port.
I've tried all that seemed obvious to me, and still the same message.
Ive made the printer share directory belong to root and group owner every, which has everybody who should print belonging to that group and chmod 770. I've made the printer$

AW: duplex settings [ was Re: parsing fix for spoolss & s amba-2.2.5]
Hi Jerry,
It seems that the "samba-2.2.5-printing.patch" has only fixed the problem
for PCL drivers.
With PS drivers (Laserjet 4050 PS) are the duplex & tray settings still
missing.
Best regards,
Khiem

IAX connection slow between 1.4 and 1.6 dists
Hi gang,
I'm running 1.4.26.2 and 1.4.30 on my two "real" asterisk boxes.
I just installed 1.6.2.6 on a Suse VM and the phone to asterisk connection
works fine. When I try to do an IAX connection from the 1.4 boxes to the
1.6 boxes, the audio runs like molasses. Instead of "welcome to blah blah
blah", I get "wel --- Come to bla #$#$$$

waf workaround?
Is it possible to build samba without waf?
It has slowed down my local samba builds by a factor of 5-10x -- it
seems to lack
any parallelism, and on a 12 core machine, that really sucks.
When going through it's tests, it's noticeably slower than the configure
shell
tests that do the same...
But then the build/make parts all go by like molasses...
What is wrong with standard make

VM in a VM on kvm/qemu
Hi all,
For development reasons, I've setup a pair of VMs (host is Fedora 22)
running EL6 as an HA cluster. On these two nodes, I host a 3rd VM (so
Fedora 22 -> 2x EL 6.7 -> El 6.7). Currently, 'EL' == CentOS, but I can
switch to RHEL proper if need be.
To my happy surprise, it actually works! Of course, the two-deep EL6
guest is slow as molasses. I don't really care

parsing fix for spoolss & samba-2.2.5
For those people experiencing Explorer.exe crashes when working with
printers, please try this patch
ftp.samba.org/pub/jerry/patches/post-2.2.5/parse_sec.patch
It was a size vs. alignment bug when marshalling security
descriptors for the PRINTER_INFO_2 structure.
cheers, jerry

I am trying to run Samba 2.2.4 on solaris 2.8 with W2K clients. I have an NT
app installed onto the Solaris 8 server which i would like to run off of the
mapped samba network drive. When i try to start the NT app it attempts to
read a file on the samba drive called .root.passwords but fails (This file
can be accessed with notepad). The following is an extract from the samba

ACT Printing problems
Michael,
I saw your post regarding printing problems with ACT, Windows 2000 and
Samba. Did you manage to fix it? I am having exactly the same problem and
receiving the same errors in my log file. I am trying to print to a
Laserjet 5MP printer via samba.
What I think is happening is ACT is trying to use the older LANMAN printing
subsystem and not RPC. As you mentioned, I too only have this

can't browse across subnets
Hi folks -
I'm having an issue here.
I have my samba server sitting on one subnet, and the rest of the clients
sitting on another (due to IP administration reasons).
I assign both my clients and the server to the same workgroup, but
the winboxen clients can't browse to the samba server.
The win clients all have WINS resolution turned on, and I specified

Printer installation with imprints package
Hi,
I have a samba 2.2.2 on HP-UX 11, serving a few printers. When I install
a new driver via win2000' printer properties dialogue it works fine.
When I try to do the same from unix with the imprints package, ist
screwed. The driver files get uploaded, but they don't register as an
installed driver, with rpcclient 'enumdrivers' I don't 'see' them.
When I set the

Samba 2.2.3a, print queue status "opening,"highserver load
Printing from NT4.0 clients to Samba 2.2.3a using the NT4.0 drivers from
HP works fine for me, my only problem has been with W2K clients using
the W2K drivers from HP.
The drivers from www.hp.com appear to be level 3 drivers, that is where
they install, and they are downloaded by W2K drivers if they are
available when the NT4.0 drivers are also available. Now, whether these
drivers from HP are
