Hi We are about to buy several Snom phones. Does anyone have warnings or advices against these phones ? Our finalists were Cisco, Polycom and Snom. We will be using only the SIP protocol. Thanks Patrick
Greetings, We are just finishing a roll-out of 25 of the SNOM 190s with a SNOM 220 w/sidecar. The only "gotcha" that I found is that the SNOM 190s use "rfc2833" for a default dtfm mode and not "inband" which is the default for the asterisk server. I haven't ironed out the Mass deployment functionality yet, but will do so. So with a tftp server running you should be fine. Generally speaking, of course. Hi Patrick ->>> We are about to buy several Snom phones. >>> >>> Does anyone have warnings or advices against these phones ? >>> >>> Our finalists were Cisco, Polycom and Snom. >>> >>> We will be using only the SIP protocol. >>>One particularly weird behavior on the Snom phones - When the phone is either 1) off-hook without a call, or 2) on-hook and ringing, if another call comes into the phone, it will tell asterisk it is busy. Most other phones in this case will roll the second call over to the next available line, but Snom phones will give a busy message back to asterisk. I went crazy with my configs trying to figure out how to stop this, but Snom has said that this behavior is intentional. I don't know why. - Noah
Hi Randy -> Hmm, quick question. > > Does the issue occur on all current models of SNOM phones, or just the > 320 and 360 mentioned below? >From what I can tell, the issue occurs an all existing models and firmwares. I own some 190's and the issue has been there through all versions of the firmware. I tested out a 220 a while back and the issue existed on it, too. I think what Nils meant is that the issue will be fixed on a future releases of the firmware for the 320 and 360. It is worth noting that this issue is really quite minor. If you're on the phone and another call comes in, it will ring to the next available line, just like you would expect it to. If you have a "normal" dialplan where a call will go to busy voicemail on a busy signal from the phone, it just means that callers will get voicemail if the phone is already ringing another call, or if the user has picked up the phone but hasn't yet connected to a call. That's no big deal in my book. - Noah
We initially tried going with Snom but had a high failure rate. Since then we have been Polycom and they seem to work great. We did just have a customer demand a phone with a sidecar and bought a Snom 220 with 2 of them. The additional sidecars require a seperate power supply which did not come with. Also they claim damage if not powered up properly. After installed for a week it too had issues. Seems the handset went bad which also made the speakerphone stop working. I would strongly look at Polycom or Cisco if this is a business class rollout. We did also test these but they were too expensive. we have cisco 7960 with 7914 sidecar, but according to our receptionist, this is not very nifty, she likes software attendant console for comfortable call processing btw, cisco with sidecar also require external power supply (even phone alone can be powered in-line), and special stand... yes, cisco is very expensive...
