EL 6 rollout strategies? (Scientific Linux)
...ht be offered by the CentOS community on their experiences using Scientific Linux? I'm a long-time Centos user, and am basically happy with CentOS. I understand there are delays getting EL 6 out. We have been long anxious to roll out EL 6 as soon as it's ready, but our time window for rollout is looming and we will need to act. (for business reasons, we need to rollout over summer, before Aug 1, we need to start regression testing now!) I was once a WhiteBox Enterprise Linux user and switched to CentOS 4 without issue, and am assuming that I might need to do something similar if we...

advice sought on possible rollout
Hi all, one of our clients have three branch offices currently connected by ADSL lines. they are using Cisco 827-4V units with the FXS ports connected to their aging PBX units. I am thinking of installing an * server in the head office, maybe with an analogue FXO card connected to the PSTN so field officers in Melbourne can call sydney for a local call price. The question is - what Digium

Production-environment AD rollout?
Hey, all. I've used Samba a lot, but took a job about four years ago during which time I've only used it for one-off projects. Looks like I might take a new job, though, and I'll get to call the shots. I'd *love* to have Samba with AD running things, and just have Windows in-place as clients (possibly with Exchange... can't win 'em all). Is this feasible in this day and

Which distribution to rollout
we are running an older version of RH (7.3) - and I am getting concerned that I may need to migrate off of it - but I dont know what I should move to. Trying to formulate ideas before it becomes a 'got to do it now' scenario. I have some reservations about fedora - I just dont know how stable it is for a production server (our services are mainly samba/ldap/ntp/ssh/rsync/clamav) - we

So sorry! was: Re: EL 6 rollout strategies? (Scientific Linux)
As the OP for this thread, it saddens me to see that the thread I started has now been used as a forum for behavior of the worst kind seen in professional circles. I'm a longtime user of CentOS and merely wanted to know of users' past experiences transitioning between SL and CentOS. My first experience with CentOS was as a transition from Whitebox to CentOS, and the process was as

Automating Windows Update
Hi guys I was just wondering if there's already a way to automate the process of updating Windows to be specific XP. My idea is to mimic how a Windows server domain controller can rollout critical update on the entire domain. Can Samba do this? Thanks for any info Jan Ardosa --------------------------------- Yahoo! CTDB and locking issues in 4.4.6 (Classic domain)

The file servers are in an AD domain and are running Sernet 4.4.5, so one version older than production. I have tested the locking on these and it works. The only difference I can find that in prod, /etc/default/sernet-samba-ctdb contains these lines: CTDB_MANAGES_SAMBA=yes CTDB_MANA...

EL6, xinetd, and permissions. What am I missing?
Staging for a rollout of EL 6, and ran into a very strange permissions issue with xinetd that defies all (my) logic. It's a script called "spfiled" that we use for messaging between our server cluster servers. I'm trying to get it to run with "least permissions necessary". Because it rea...

5,000 concurrent calls system rollout question
Hi, we are currently considering different options for rolling out a large scale IP PBX to handle around 3,000 + concurrent calls. Can this be done with Asterisk? Has it been done before? I really would like an input on this. Thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Warning for SP2 net share point on Samba 3.0.7
Hi All, Just a word of caution for those who are intending to roll out XP SP2 via a network share. I've encoutered an issue with SP2 and Debian Samba 3.07 when more than 5 simultaneous connections are in place. I'd set-up and tested a rollout using the samba share, but come roll-out day most of the 20 odd machines were still copying files some 48 hours after. No specific errors were apparent in system/smb logs and regular share access continued without disruption to the usual quality of service. i.e. Everything was still working fine a...

wordpress.com and puppet, would they use it to update mysql db schema's also?
Say for example wordpress.com uses puppet to rollout the wordpress software for its customers. During updates to the software, say there are mysql schema updates. i.e. say they have 100K mysql databases, 1 for each blog. And the database for each blog as to be updated to version x which adds a few tables, columns to tables etc. If they have 100K w...

Upgrading ocfs2 when applying kernel patches.
I am in the middle of rolling RHEL 4 update 5 ( 2.6.9-55) through my servers. We use a development, QA, and production rollout. Unfortunately I have ocfs members in each of these groups that need to share filesystems. The network compatibility issues between ocfs2 tools 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 are causing the members to not be able to operate with ocfs. Hence this breaks my systems or causes me to upgraded at a minumum OCFS on al...

I''m getting this problem on all the puppet client''s I''ve been setting up and it''s got me both scratching my head (because I''m not seeing anything obvious in any system logs) and pausing in my rollout until I get it solved: # puppet resource service puppet ensure=running enable=true Error: Could not start Service[puppet]: Execution of ''/sbin/service puppet start'' returned 1: Error: /Service[puppet]/ensure: change from stopped to running failed: Could not start Service[puppet...

Citrix, Samba PDC experiences.
...will work. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge they'd be willing to share? I'm currently involved in rolling out Citrix for proprietary windows apps for remote offices. We've always used samba internally, though I'm still authenticating to a real old NT domain. The Citrix rollout includes needing more windows CAL's, so rather then A/D, I really want to use a SAMBA PDC if possible. thanks, Mark

Hitting wall at 2048 IMAP connections
We are gradually rolling out Dovecot (IMAP only, no POP3) to our customer base. We are replicating between a pair of CentOS 7 boxes. All has been working wonderfully. However, to be sure our rollout continues to go smoothly, we put together a simple benchmark client program to fire up X persistent IMAP connections (using hundreds of mailboxes) that login, list the folders, select the INBOX, periodically FETCH an email from the INBOX, and otherwise sit in an IDLE loop. As long as we keep...
