Xen users - May 2011 - Question Fe and BE device

Hello,

I try to install some applications on XEN. These applications have a 
automated install and are based on SLES10SP3. During the installation 
the device searches for /dev/sr0. Which fails in the xen enviroment. I 
now make a work around with booting a rescue system and mounting 
/dev/hdc and so on. But it should not be that difficult to install 
something into XEN.

Can Somebody shed some light on how to make /dev/sr0 available for domu

How the expose the front end cdrom as /dev/sr0 instead of /dev/hdc  in 
the domU

Isn''t there a configuration option in your application that will let
you
specify the proper cdrom device? Have you tried making a symlink from 
/dev/sr0 to /dev/hdc? Have you tried making the SLES domU an HVM guest 
instead of PV?

The installation concerns a application based on SLES10SP3. There are 
some install scripts added which look for /dev/sr0.
While booting the domu with this installation media I wouldn''t know how
to symlink /dev/sr0. I''m open for suggestions on this.
I have made a HVM but no change no /dev/sr0 for the domu available.

replying to my on email but I found the solution (workaround) here
entering instal=hd:/dev/hdc did the trick.
