samba - Nov 2002 - Version 2.2.6 and above are not able to store big files over 2GB

Hello,

when I store a file biger than 2GB to a samba server version 2.2.5
everythink works fine. But when I do that with a server version 2.2.6 or
2.2.7 the saving fails on the 2GB limit. The problem can be seen with
windowsclients or with smbclient (any version > 2.2.5).

I did some debuging and find that the lseek64 fails. But I didn't find the
reason.

Is this on the same exact server, and on the same server filesystem?  I 
ask, because on Linux at least, some of the native filesystem types 
still have a 2GB file size limit.  My recent experience is that ext2 
and ext3 still have a 2GB filesize limit by default.  On the other 
hand, ReiserFS does not, since version 3.5.x.

Just something to consider..... it may be a Samba bug, but if the 
lseek64() fails, it would seem to lie in the filesystem....

Yes, it is the same Filesystem. It is on Solaris8 and the largefilesupport is 
explicit enabled.

As I noted, the version 2.2.5 was doing everythink well. But the version 2.2.6 
has this problem and it is still in 2.2.7.

Well, thats the last what is done bevore the fail. I added some debuging 
informations because first I thougt, samba use not the lseek64 but the lseek 
call.

The file will be 8192 byte bigger than 31 bit. (0x80002000) After that the 
seek will called next and fails.

The errno is 22 (EINVAL -- Invalid argument) and that exact when the
 seekvalue gets bigger than 31 bit.

Maybe you should rather cc the cooker list (since you've basically got
all the other Mandrake lists already) and ask them when they will merge
the newer smbfs stuff, or you can patch your kernel, or maybe you want
to build 2.5.x kernel from source and try that.

Samba on Mandrake should support files over 2GB out the box, but you're
going to have to try from a windows box that supports large files (ie
don't try and copy a 2GB+ file to fat32).
