2gig limit
I'm running into a 2gig file limit when copying files from a linux machine
running smbmount 3.0.2a-Debian and kernel 2.4.23 connecting to another
debian machine running smbd 3.0.2a-Debian with the stock 2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel
that comes with debian stable (though the machine has been upgraded to sid).

crash on 2 gig file
...s file on both machines and half the
files have not been getting updated for the last few months. We only
noticed it recently.
so to summarize the bug:
file on LIVE is 0 bytes
file on BACKUP is 2 gigs
on BACKUP you run:
rsync -az --delete LIVE:/u/appl /u
causes all files in the list before the 2gig file to update, nothing else.
Of course I manually fixed the problem by deleteing the 2gig file from the
backup machines and so tonights rsync should re-create the 0-byte versions
and update the other files no problem, but I just wanted to log the bug.
Thanks

special tricks for developers box on centos 5
I was just wondering if there are special tricks people do
that compile A LOT on centos? Do RAM disks help or something else I dont
about that minimizes your compile time? I presently have and AMD x2
4800+ with 2GIG ram.
Just curious if I can reduce any more time out of my compiles.

swapping on centos 5.1
Hi all,
I used to use centos 4.5 on an AMD 4800+ with 2GIG ram.
Now I use centos 5.1 on AMD 6400+ with 4GIG RAM.
The system responsiveness is different between the two.
I noticed that centos 5.1 seems to be swapping programs out
of memory at times resulting in slowness (perceived by me).
I played with swappiness (/proc/sys/vm/) setting to 10, then 1 then...

In regards to export XAPIAN_FLUSH_THRESHOLD I know the default is 10000
Am I right in saying that for my setup I should be doing export
XAPIAN_FLUSH_THRESHOLD=1000 because:
1000 documents * 2MB doc size = 2gig of memory required before a flush

Dimensioning a 50 sip phone installation
...me LAN
-Some sporadic conferencing with no more than 2 sip phones and maybe 2
or 3 calls coming from the E1 for a total of 5 people in a conference.
The asterisk server will get an E1(pri) via one fonebridge (TDMoE)
I was thinking of an HP DL140 with two 250gig sata disks and one
3.8Xeon CPU with 2gig RAM.
Also, does a fonebridge setup suffers from the fact that 1.4 has no
PRI/R2 support (as said in a previous post by someone else).

centos on 64M 350Mhz pentimum II
All,
I have an old computer 64M 350Mhz pentium II.
centos os 4.1 installs on it fine. however on boot
it says low memory and it kills certain processes. httpd or sendmail.
I have a 2GIG swap and I did a chkconfig XXX off on a few things
like xfs, nfs, httpd, kudzu.
My old 2.4 kernel used to run in 4M with a swap...
I had recompiled the kernel (took a while) to enable the cyclades module.
Any suggestions on running with low memory, thanks,

Performance of WinXP after xen tools installed is terrible
...-core AMD cpu with AMD-V technology.
The system spends a huge amount of time running rundll32.exe.
If I kill the executable, it speeds up a bit. The performance
problem has been there since the beginning, and I''ve scanned
for viruses. There are none to be found.
I''ve allocated 2GIG for the domain and 2 VCPUs. Performance
is so bad as to make the domain almost unusable for many
tasks. Deleting files, for some reason, takes forever.
Are there obvious things for which I can check or set?
I''m using the latest Citrix distro and I''ve installed the

Version 2.2.6 and above are not able to store big files over 2GB
Hello,
when I store a file biger than 2GB to a samba server version 2.2.5
everythink works fine. But when I do that with a server version 2.2.6 or
2.2.7 the saving fails on the 2GB limit. The problem can be seen with
windowsclients or with smbclient (any version > 2.2.5).
I did some debuging and find that the lseek64 fails. But I didn't find the
reason.

...age System, running over a 1Gig Network.
Mounted on all nodes: /dev/sdc1 on /cfs1 type ocfs2

Maximum Nodes: 32
Block Size=4k
Cluster Size=4k
My testing shows that to write simultaneously from the 10 nodes, 10 x
200Meg files (1 file per node, total of 2Gig) takes ~23.54secs.
Reading the files back can take just as long.
Do these numbers sound correct?
Doing dd if=/dev/zero of=/cfs1/xxxxx/txt count=1000 bs=2048000 (2Gig)
from a single node takes 16secs.

Does dualcore xeon (single cpu) and 2gig memory can handle this w/o transcoding using sip?Any recommendation?
Thank you very much guys for your help.

Searching around the web, it appears that the problem may be the ability to

RC1 Zfs writes a lot slower when running X
Hi,
I have OpenSolaris on an Amd64 Asus-A8NE with 2gig of Rams and 4x320 gig sata drives in raidz1.
With dd, I can write at quasi disk maximum speed of 80meg each for a total of 250meg/s if I have no Xsession at all (only console tty).
But as soon as I have an Xsession running, the write speed drops to about 120MB/s.
Its even worse if I have a VBoxHe...

Ubuntu vs. Windows
...the Ubuntu machine is exactly the same as my windows box (e.g.,
processor and RAM) as far as I can tell.
Now, I recently had to run a very large lmer analysis using my windows
machine, but was unable to due to memory limitations, even after
increasing all the memory limits in R (which I think is a 2gig max
according to the FAQ for windows). So, to make this computationally
feasible, I had to sample from my very big data set and then run the
analysis. Even still, it would take something on the order of 45 mins to
1 hr to get parameter estimates. (BTW, SAS Proc nlmixed was even worse

Memory Problems
I have an R program which basically reads in data. It then
calls a C program which performs numerical integration until converging
to a solution. The result is then passed back from C to R.
Unfortunately, when running this program, the virtual
memory associated with it explodes -> 2GIG!. Does anyone know what might
be causing this or can suggest possiblie ways to debug?
Thank you!

problems with memory in Mac
Dear friends,
I am having some doubts about the amount of memory that is being used by
R in my Mac (MacBook Pro, 2Gig). Is there a way to increase the amount
of memory used?
When I type:
> mem.limits()
the result is:
nsize vsize
NA NA
and I can't change it, tough my computing in R isn't using all the
memory at it's disposal.
Best regards,
Carlos
