Problem joining Windows machine to domain managed by Samba PDC
Hi, I am running into a problem that seems to occur to a lot of people, but I haven't yet worked out what the solution is. I have Samba version 3.0.3 installed in a Linux box (let's call it linuxserver) and I want it to run a Windows domain so that I can manage machines and users. I have a Windows box (call it windowsclient, running Windows 2003 Server) that I'd like to join to the

Users changing samba passwords directly from windowsclient
Hi! Why don't you check up the neat utility changepassword from http://sourceforge.net. It works just wonderfully for me and also is an Open Source package which can be modified for your needs. Users at my place didn't even know they were taking their files from a Linux system until I changed to name to Linuxserver... ;-) If any help is required on this or installation you can

I'm setting up a linux mashine with samba for filesharing to windowsclients. I use samba 3 and Linux rh9 and swat. We are just a small group of trusted people. I need to create a folder with rights for any windowsuser in the workgroup to: -connect to and add subfolders and files. -read all the subfolders and files. -change in subfolders and files. Version 2.2.6 and above are not able to store big files over 2GB
Hello, when I store a file biger than 2GB to a samba server version 2.2.5 everythink works fine. But when I do that with a server version 2.2.6 or 2.2.7 the saving fails on the 2GB limit. The problem can be seen with windowsclients or with smbclient (any version > 2.2.5). I did some debuging and find that the lseek64 fails. But I didn't find the reason. Regards Klaus Ethgen

Offline logon from Winxp/2000 Client doesn't work
Hello, I've installed samba 3.0.24 recently and since then I cannot login on my Windowsclients if they are disconnected. If I have a connection everything is fine. I'm at a loss what else to do. The only hints for offline logons I've found all refer to the use of samba with ADS. I have only one samba server in my network(no winbind). The clients are unchanged to my prior installa...

problems mounting Win2003 Server Share - smbclient is working smbmount is not
...t: ls .: Stale NFS handle ??? I updated the whole system. Now Slackware current with samba 3.0.22 and Kernel 2.6.16.1 (cifvs suport compiled in) and nfs-utils 1.0.7 is working. When I now mount the share and ls inside I get: ls .: Access denied The rights of the shares are correct because other WindowsClients are able to connect to. The crazy thing: If I'm using smbclient, its possible to get into the directory and see the content: smbclient //server/dir -U user At this point I have no more ideas where to search for or how to fix the problem. Here is the global section of samba (testparm is OK...

deleting symlinks only
hello list, is it possible to delete a symlinked directory over a samba-share, without deleting it's content but leaving the link-target as it is and deleting the symlink only? If I interpret samba's behaviour correctly, on deletion samba does not recognize the link as a link but as a directory, descends into it and deletes the content recursively, finally tries to delete the directory
