If I understand you correctly your problem is with roaming profiles...
If you're using XPSP1+ you may have the problem of
the client checking that the SID of the PDC and that stored in the
profile are the same. You can disable that new check on the client
using gpedit.msc. This should only be relevant in the case that your
profiles are stored on a machine that is not the PDC.
If the profile server and the PDC are the same machine you can enable
"nt acl support" on the profile share to get things working.
