Upgrade 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
Hi,
After upgrading Dovecot from version 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2, we are
sporadically seeing lots of these errors in the error log on many of our
servers:
imap-login: Error: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed:
Resource temporarily unavailable -
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/SocketUnavailable
The issue is causing significant delays and/or timeouts on login.
From what I can tell, this

POP3 Dictionary Attack Causes Complete Dovecot Failure Without Notice
Hi,
Whenever my Dovecot installation is POP3-dictionary-attacked, a large
number of log entries written to /var/log/local0 from the syslog showing
all the POP3 login and shadow lookup failures is produced and then the
entire Dovecot installation crashes, master and all. Unfortunately, it
was running unattended under normal use, is apparently quite hard to
reproduce (I wrote a Tcl script

Dovecot rc23 and rc24 freeze after authentication
I had our production systems running on rc23, however we ran into
problems when the server was under heavy load. Eventually, the
server would begin to freeze all imap connection after authentication
(according to the logs). A user would connect, authentication would
succeed, and then the connection would sit until timing out. No
error logs were produced. Upgrading to rc24 did not

I gonna understand one day
Hi,
I'm still struggling with dovecot and Unixware:
On my main server, I have two problems:
1- imap-login has great difficulties to connect to 'default'.
I have traced it to accept in auth_master_listener.c witch fails with
errno=71 (EPROTO) weird...
2- It some times works and I can log-in but imap gets killed by signal 6
(abort?)

TLS not working with iOS beta?
Hi,
Have anyone else experienced problems using Dovecot with the mail app in beta releases of iOS/iPadOS 13?
TLS is failing for my, it have worked fine for years and I am on the latest Dovecot version now, it works fine with older clients but not with the ones upgraded:

OpenBSD and too many open files
I posted some questions a few months back and received lots of great
help in getting my dovecot/postfix/LDAP setup working. Initially, I
ran into the pipe failed too many open files error. I am running this
setup on OpenBSD/sparc64 4.1-stable and so I put dovecot in its own
class and upped the maxfiles setting for that class. This was back
with dovecot 1.0 and everything worked fine. I

Login/director not created
But if in the configuration of the director is stated login/director.
Than I assume this socket should be in the login dir not? You have also
the director activate with executable = imap-login director?

Upgrade 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
While I not certain that this is related to the problem we are
experiencing, we are also (more rarely) seeing these:
dovecot: master: Warning: service(imap-login): process_limit (16)
reached, client connections are being dropped
imap-login was set to process_limit=16, client_limit=1250 (for a total
of 20000 concurrent clients) on 2.2.27. We never had any issues with
this then.

Upgrade 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
As a workaround for the titular issue, I have tried enabling the
"imap-hibernate" service on a couple of servers to reduce the number of
running imap processes.
Since ~50-60% of clients are in IDLE at any one time, this allows us to
reduce the number of running imap processes to less than half of what it
was.
After this I have yet to see the "net_connect_unix(imap)

Thanks for the response!
What exactly did you want to compare? `ss -tp` does not appear to show
cmdline/process title. I enabled it for one server, but will have to
wait for users to reconnect and for the issue to reappear there.
In the meantime, on another server

Authorization client connect failing
Hello, and thank you in advance for your valuable time.
I am running Dovecot v1.0.rc15 on an OpenBSD 3.9 i386 machine (no time
to upgrade yet). I downloaded the source from the dovecot site,
compiled and installed without any problem. The server starts up find
and runs for a while. After a few hours to a few days, the server stops

Login process connection routing
Timo,
Just out of curiosity, how are incoming connections routed to login
processes when run with:
service imap-login { service_count = 0 }
I've been playing with this on our test director, and the process connection
counts look somewhat unbalanced. I'm wondering if there are any performance
issues with having a single process handle so many connections. It seems
fine (system load is

We are unfortunately still seeing a lot of these errors once the machine
reaches a high number of concurrent users/logins (just below 20k
simultaneous IMAP connections on a powerful 24 core machine with 128GB RAM):
