Printer driver upload from WindowsXP is broken since 3.0alpha22
Recently i've moved to samba 3.0 beta1 and noticed, that drivers for shared printers couldn't be uploaded from WindowsXP GUI any more. After copying files to \\smbserver\print$\W32X86 folders it says something like "Unable to install HP LaserJet 2100 PCL6, Windows2000 or XP, Intel driver. Operation could not be completed". It works OK on samba3.0alpha20, but doesn't work on samba3.0alpha22-24. Upload...

Wrong charset when mounting WindowsXP shares
Hello, I don't seem to be able to mount a WindowsXP share with smbmount and get the correct charset. From what I understand Win2000/XP use UTF-8 for SMB shares, so I tried to mount with -o iocharset=utf8 but it did not make any difference. All extended characters are messed up or truncated. Here is what I found out using filenames wi...

Is it possible to start Installer from WindowsXP?
...IDE but not secondaly. I connected a hard drive as Master and DVD-R as Slave on IDE. BIOS doesn't recognize IDE devices, but Windows XP that boots up from SATA hard drive can recognize DVD-R and can read files on the CentOS Installer Disk 1 of 4. Is it possible to start Centos4 Installer from WindowsXP? If possible, which file on Disk 1 should I click? Even if they are possible, can CentOS boot up from IDE Master hard drive? I think probably not. Thanks in advance, Takashi Nakamura

Installing packages from source on WindowsXP
Hi, I'm having some problems installing packages from the source files on Windows, using R CMD INSTALL pkg. I'm running WindowsXP, and I've followed the instructions as per the README.packages file from the R installation. I ran into a hitch, with the install failing following a "hhc: not found" warning. I figured out that this was related to the html help workshop. Adding the HHW folder to the Path variable...

R CMD INSTALL --build: Folders /inst and /etc not in zip-file and WindowsXP locks /library/[package]/etc/
...the "test_1.0.zip" file without any error message. But: 1) This zip-file does neither contain the "/etc" folder nor the "menus.txt" file. 2) The installation created the folder "/test" in the library path /R-2.9.2/library/test/ , but this folder is locked by WindowsXP. That is, the access is denied and can only be resolved by re-defining the owner and the permission rights. 3) Having removed the package from the library, and trying to install the zip-package using "install from local zip files..." does the installation. But, the "/etc" folder...

WindowsXP Slow to display Sub Dir and file tree's
...95' 98' 2000 machines browsing on the samba servers sub dir's on shares is almost instant, root files in that share and all sub dir's appear in Windows Explorer within less than a second. Even large tree's with say over 1000 sub dir's in the tree, are very fast. However, on WindowsXP machines browsing the same shares / Dir Tree's can take many seconds, for the refresh of the explorer to display them, sometimes 3 - 30 seconds, When Opening these share's through word/excel you can just forget it and go for the coffee machine... However on 95' 98' 2000' machine...

Samba and WindowsXP
Hello all. I'm writing to inquire about two particular problems with Samba and Windows XP that have me perplexed. Problem #1: I have a Solaris9 Samba 2.2.5 server, which acts as a print server to all the other UNIX nodes on the network. This works fine, however, when I print from WindowsXP, instead of getting the actual printout, I get the PostScript source code, pages and pages of it. The printer is an HP LaserJet4ML/PS, so it's PS capable. Under UNIX, it's set up as a PS printer on the print server. I've already read the documentation under docs/Registry and applied...

Synchronize changing of the WinXP user password to the smbpasswd (without PDC)
Is there a way to synchronize changing a user's WindowsXP password with the smbpasswd? I configured a basic Samba server (3.0.10) with password encryption enabled. When I created the smbpasswd file, I used the same username:passwords as the WindowsXP user accounts. After the initial connection, users can login and map the network shares seamlessly....
