We use local (!) GPOs on our Win2k clients with great success:
- log on to "master" workstation as administrator
- create a link to the "C:\WINNT\system32\GroupPolicy"...

gpedit.msc as centralized policy for 2k/xp clients in domain
I found this from
http://charon.minilab.bdeb.qc.ca/anonym/nt/2000/ads/TTGW2KGP_Vol1through4.pdf
I would like to figure out how to do this gpedit.msc+AD+gpc+gpt magic for
win2k/xp with linux+samba(2.2/3.0/tng)+openldap and is it possible at all?
Thanks.

Windows XP Profile-Samba 3
Hi,
We are setting up a samba PDC with rhcl 5.I made some restrictions in XP
box using GPEDIT like restricting the access to control panel, desktop
properties, registry and etc. ,then i copied the DEFAULT USER folder frm
that XP box to netlogon share of samba server.(thought it would act as
baseprofile for all users and this profile policy will be copied to all new

Exporting local policies on several computers
Hello everyone,
Not really a Samba problem, but I hope someone can help me :
I am doing some tests for integrating XP clients on Samba 3.02 with LDAP
backend.
I have tried this on a test machine on which I have applied local
policies withthe gpedit.msc console (ie : Delete the roaming profiles or
hide the logon scripts...) and this work perfectly.
Now I'd like to do the same on other machines and I want to export the
local policies I applied on the first one but it does'nt work :
I copied the Registry.pol files from one computer t...

windows shortcut for "Group Policy Editor"
Hey all,
according to the whitepaper http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736591%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
I would like to a windows shortcut on the desktop that allows me to open and run the "Group Policy Editor"
*for my samba4/AD domain*.
The shortcut command should be:
"gpedit.msc /gpobject:"LDAP://CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=mydom,
DC=example,DC=com"
I certainly need the correct ID og the object, but how do I find it out? I need to replace the string
{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9} shown on that example with the correct on...

Should I upgrade Samba 3.6 to Samba 4.1
...amba server
is not virtual.
The problem is my wife's Win7 laptop which is running some sort of home
edition of Win7. I did everything I could in control panel to enable
file sharing but I still can't see the Samba share. I can ping the
computer running Samba? I tried to launch "gpedit.msc" but this program
was not there.
Do you think it would work if I upgraded Samba to the latest version
4.1? Should I consider upgrading to Win7 professional?
Thank you,
Joe Hesse

Samba as PDC with WinXP Clients -> headache!!
Hi.
my last post was about upscale configuration for my WinXP clients,
because I believed I had it working, but ...
Next day I booted the client and .... it wouldnt let me log onto the
domain again. :-(
I am using Samba 2.2.8a with Ldap backend which works great in workgroup
mode.
Joining the domain is very easy and works well, but then after rebooting
I get:

Using user policies with samba3 and windows 2000
...fine, but now we would like to use user policies.
As I learned that can be done by the ntuser.pol file in the 'profiles'
user sub directory on the PDC.
So her is what i already tried:
1.) Set up a test Window$ 2000 Client and get it into the Domain
2.) Log in as Administrator
3.) Start gpedit.msc (and change something)
4.) Test if that change works
5.) Log out
6.) Make the ntuser.dat to a ntuser.man
7.) Log in as Administrator
8.) restore the original gpedit.msc parameter
9.) log out and in again
So i found out that this does not work, as the changes via gpedit.msc
are only stored loca...

ntconfig.pol for samba3.5.6+openldap+Win7
Hi all,
All clients are Win 7.
How can I transmit rules defined in gpedit for users (for example
forbid execution of regedit) to the Default User roaming profile?
Is it done with a ntconfig.pol ? If yes, how can I make it ?
Thanks

http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold
Folder redirection is working, using the

But, when I use gpedit.mmc to exclude the redirected folders from the
roaming profile, as instructed here
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#sbehap-locgrppol
all files in the redirected folders are deleted when the user logs out.
In other words, if a user logs in, downloads the firefox install...

AFAIK gpedit just write to the DC with FSMO role by default.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Rsync_based_SysVol_replication_workaround#Information_on_rsync-based_replication
so, simply use as source the FSMO DC.

Missing features in RSAT Group Policy Manager (Debian as Samba PDC)
...O I am unable to find *Account Policies* and *Local
Policies *under *"Computer Configuration / Policies / Windows Settings /
Security Settings*". This is also the case when using RSAT from a Windows
10 Pro machine.
These Policies do exist on the Windows 11 Pro machine itself when I open
*gpedit.msc*.
Not sure if this is relevant, but I did download and install the the 22H2
ADMX Templates for Windows 11 to the Samba AD. They exists in the SYSVOL
directory.
An example of a policy I'd like to set in the GPO is *"Interactive logon:
Message text for users attempting to log on"*...

Samba PDC windows XP logon scripts

still have them automaticly check the netlogon share or something like
that to apply network mappings and policies per group or user.
I have this working when the user logs onto the domain. He gets a profile

those things locally to every machine, but obviously i want to have this
another way.
Domain login could be ok if it's a new user, but i'm talking about +- 50
workstations with local profiles already in use. And it would be the best

- Use of poledit.exe and various templates to create NTConfig.POL in

- Using gpedit.msc on the reference PC to 'deploy' various initial

This is what I *don't* have figured out. I basically need to find out
whether any of this is possible and, if so, whether it is possible using
