I assume the smbpasswd also is x.
run regedit32 on start menu on the xp, and check this.
In the registry change
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters
"requiresignorseal"=dword:00000001
to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters
"RequireSignOrSeal"=dword:00000000
