Hello, As we will migrate to Win XP Client, is there a site, document, etc ... where I can find information about tests and results of Win XP behaviour with SAMBA ? Thanks Orazio
I am not sure about a web site, but i have deployed windows XP Pro in an environment with samba 2.2.3a acting as a PDC and handling domain logins with no issues (outside of disabling requiring a trust relationship by default in XP under Local Security Policies) on 2 different sites. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask. -- Eric Anderson Systems / Security Administrator 21st Century Electronics
Hi everybody, Can anybody please confirm that Samba works ok with XP? if connected as a workgroup, for a simple network with no PDC. Thanks. -- H&H Technology Hatem AbouHassan Ph: 416-392-4016 or 604-785-0997 Fax: 604-692-3596

I've installed samba 2.2.5 in a AIX 4.3.3 box using binaries from bull (ftp.rge.com/pub/systems/aix/bull), and it worked ok with Win2000 clients, but NOT with my WinXP clients. Did anybody run over this matter? -- Silvio Bandeira UNICAP - Dept. of Computer Science
Unfortunately, It didn't worked. In the XP box I can join the domain when I change it in Network Id. Even "net use x: \\server\user (...)" works. But when I try to log in with user and passwd after a logoff (of course) it says (I'm using Portuguese Windows): "windows could not connect to domain because the domain controler is inoperative or not available or your machine account was not found. (...)" Many thanks to your answer anyway. Hope you have some other ideas. I have a domain user that lacks rights to the local machine to run RPC. Under a real Win2k domain, I'd assign the "Domain Users" group to the local machine "Administrators" group so I could avoid any registry, file system or services rights (I don't care if they have full access to the local machine). When I do that I get an error: "Information returned from the object picker for object "Domain Admins" was incomplete. The object will not be processed" I cranked up the verbosity in the log files and I get nothing. Has anyone had and resolved the same problem? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. I've search hi and lo on Google (I found one posting last year but he never got a reply and he hasn't replied to an email I sent him). Also, the Samba lists don't have anything as far as I can tell... Thanks, Patrick
I have set up a SMB server with share level access and password encryption enabled. When I access Samba from WinXP it prompts me for a username and password, which is what I want. However, the username is greyed out (filled in with 'linuxbox\Guest'). Any suggestions on how to fix this? J.P. Cummins jpc797s@smsu.edu
