Samba 2.2.5 is crap.
Unstable windozes (hangs all the time)
Major bugs in the printing system, mount and smbmount commands.
Samba 2.2.5 is completely usable if you ask me. Crap I would say and
should never been released. I consider to change to Beeweb although it
cost money.
BTW how do u uninstall the dirt?? using ./uninstall ???

loading printers
I just configured a server to use the CUPS printing system and have all
my printers shared out by Samba. I made all the necessary changes to
the smb.conf file but don't want to restart samba in the middle of the
day since it is a high traffic server and don't want to break
connections. Is there a way to just have samba load all these printers
without restarting the service????

where I can find information about tests and results of Win XP behaviour

XP troubles
I've recently recompiled and reinstalled the latest Samba because
the version I was running wouldn't talk to Windows XP.
It still won't. Can anyone direct me to any docs, howtos, or other
docs concerning WinXP problems?
Thanks...

Problem installing
Maybe not a problem, but all ./configure files work on my system from every kind of program.
But Samba doesn't seem to do so.
I'm starting ./configure file from the source directory so i think it should work then.

Problem with a printer
I've got cups setup, to do the printwork. A setup, that was used with 2.2.3a
of samba (same smb.conf), but it fails with 2.2.5. When using smbclient or
the spoot client to connect to the samba printer resource, it tells me that
it's a bad network name. Any known issues?

Samba 2.2.8a on RedHatLinux 8.0
I have installed Samba2.2.8a on a RedHatLinux 8.0 server. After trying
several different changes to the 'smb.conf' file and several other
tests I still cannot see the samba Server from the windows XP and
windows 2000 client. When I run smbclient -L localhost this is what I
get:
added interface ip='ip address of my host' bcast=x.y.z.255(actual

help with Samba and WinXp Pro
Hi,
I just installed Redhat 7.2 with samba-2.2.1a on a linux machine. I
connected the linux machine to
a wireless router, which is connected to a hub. I run WinXP Pro PC which
is connected to the same
hub. There is no problem for me to connect to the samba server from
machines attached to the wireless
router, ( one Mac OS X & one Win98), but I can't connect to the samba

XP Pro And Samba
I have a win98 peer to peer network using a Samba server for file sharing.
There 6 Machines on the net. I'm adding a XP Pro and cannot see the neighborhood network. I can get out to the Internet. I've made sure the workgroup name is correct and the XP is not set as DHCP. Our router is the DHCP. Is there something different about setting up the user for the XP Pro? I'm creating

Samba not working
I have similar problem. However, I have noticed that without applying the sp3 on either
NT4 workstation or Server. It seems to work fine. As soon as sp3 is applied the samba
does not work. Error loggin in occurs. I remove tcpip support on nt and reinstalled, there was
a conversion from winsock1.1 to winsock2.0. Also in the smb.conf there is a statement to

Redhat firewall problem...
I've just tried setting up a Shrike (9) version of Redhat. Using the
medium settings of lokkit, then adding manually accept commands for
ports 137/udp 138/udp, 139/tcp and 445/tcp, I thought I should have been
ready to go.
This isn't the case, however. I know it's not the smb.conf settup
because when I kill iptables samba works.
When iptables IS running however, it will respond

New user
Hello team!
My relative newbie status to linux is preceded only by my Samba newbie
status. To make a long story short.......The powers to be at work decided
it was time to purchase a genuine server, they had enough peer-to-peer
networking, and money was a concern and the budget was low. So I opted for
a Dell Poweredge 2300 with RH Linux 6.0 pre-installed since I had already

CUPS and Samba 3.0 - printers no show
Hi [Samba]s
I have RedHat 8.0, and have installed a compiled CUPS 1.1.19pre4 and
Samba 3.0 (latest this week from CVS). It all compiles and installs OK
with CUPS support in Samba, but no printers show up (according to
smbclient -L or from windoze) when "printing=cups" is used. It is OK if
another form of printing is used, for example "printing=sysv". A
