Shawn, That's a complete load of manure. I have an office full of 7960's, they work great with asterisk with the SIP images loaded. I'm about to pick up a lot of 7912's (simple one line phones, same as the 7905 but it has a built in switch). These phones have also been confirmed to work with Asterisk. I would recommend not going directly to cisco, and just find a reseller who can offer you the phones preloaded with SIP images, or the phones + the smartnet contracts so you can get the images and firmware from cisco yourself! I've tried a *lot* of phones with Asterisk, and thus far, the Cisco's are by far the best I've used. Shawn, Just to back Brian up. I totally agree with his comments. I guess where they are coming from, but, what they are saying is total rubbish. They work superbly with asterisk. There can be QoS issues with cheaper switches, this can affect all any real-time media, maybe they do not want the association being made woth the Cisco phone. Shawn If you can pick up say a 3com or HP POE (proper 802.3af switch NOT an injector) switch together with 3cnjvoip-cpod POE adaptors for the Cisco 7940/7960 phones you won't need a power brick for each phone and you also get a L3 switch thrown in (If you want to get funky also look out for 3com NJ200/NJ220(US) or NJ205/NJ225(EU) wall switches). You'll get cost savings and better network management if implemented properly.
