Cisco 79xx series IP phones
...how my use of a Planet or Netgear switch would alter the spec of my ethernet to cause a IP phone to fail. Seems far fetched to me. I've never had any other problems mixing Cisco equipment with other product lines. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience to give me dealing with Cisco 7902G and 7905G IP phones and getting them to work on a lan with Asterisk when *not* using other Cisco hardware? OT: SIP vs. Skinny protocol
...hould we use SIP or Skinny. Cisco is pushing me towards Skinny, saying that I will lose some functionality with SIP. They also say that most of their customers implement skinny. I see two obvious benefits to using SIP: 1. I can get cheaper phones that run SIP, altough Cisco just came out with a 7902G for $130 US. 2. It's an open protocol and is more likely to survive long-term. What functionality do I lose by going with Skinny? Will Cisco eventually go with SIP only and I'll have to convert anyway? Any other pluses or minuses?

Need help understanding SIP phones
Greetings i have been using asterisk with good success with soft phones and I need to purchase some Sip capable phones to test. How would/do vendor specific phones like cisco 7900's and 3Com VCX 3100 series phones work SIP to SIP if they download the protocol from the Vendor call centers? I want to build my own with Asterisk, and use different phones. They say they are RFC 2543
