DHCP, the TFTP Server setting and the Cisco 79xx phones
The thing I dislike the most about the 79xx phones is that in DHCP mode, they expect the DHCP server to tell them their TFTP server address. They won't let you set it manually. So if I don't have DHCP server that gives TFTP server info, which is most of the DHCP servers at out there, then the phone won't be able to download any...

Cisco 79xx users/consultants, 7970G color in particular share information (was: Re: asterisk-users Digest, Vol 44, Issue 3)
The documentation of how to use the 79xx series' phones and features with Asterisk is really hard to find and put together. The higher end phones like 7970 are more like converged PC+phone, a thin client to telephony and network apps. But it's really hard to target it as a development and deployment platform because the docs and t...

Creating 79xx Configs
I made a little php script that creates a 79xx config if you give it the mac address, ext, etc. Is this something that would be of interest to anyone? Likely it could be improved on. And there may be some variations that I have not thot of. -- respectfully, Joseph =============== ---------------------= ********** =

Cisco 79xx XML Apps (was: Re: Cisco Directory Format)
Do you know where to find clear developers' guides (with some examples) for developing apps that run *on* Cisco 79xx phones (especially the 7970)? Examples that can run against Asterisk (not CallManager) with SIP firmware (not SCCP), and/or LDAP directories (or other open servers) would be best. Cisco 79XX and VLANS
Hey gang, We have about 30 Cisco 79XX phones all running latest 7.5 SIP. We are also using all Cisco Switches and Routers. Everything works great except that when you reboot a phone it takes like 3-5 minutes for it to come up. The phones spend tons of time 'Configuring VLAN..' We don't run any VLANs. Is there some way...

Asterisk 1.6.2.18, Cisco 79XX not registering
Hi all, I have a production server running with about 90 Cisco 79[46]1's and SIP release 8.5(2)SR1 from last year. I was running Asterisk 1.6.2.9 and upgraded last night after hours. (Seemed low risk to me!) Much to my surprise, not a single one of the Cisco 79XX phones would register. Since it's a production server, I rolled back to 1.6.2.9 and everything was fine. All my Linksys SPA phones and Polycom speaker phones registered just fine. I am now setting up test servers with both 1.6.2.18 and 1.8.3.3 to collect some debug. I am just curious ? has a...

Cisco 79XX phones not talking to asterisk
Hi all, I have setup my Cisco 79XX phone. Did the tftp, put the config files in the right location with the right names. Booted my phone, it does the tftp things, the screen shows my extensions everything seems fine. However, when I come offhook and try to dial 11 which is just a playback of demo-congrats in the dialplan the phone...

79xx 7-4
Anyone try the new Cisco firmware for the 79xx sip phones? In my test it seems to work fine for a little and than soon the phone looses its time. At first the status shows clear, and then it appears to get confused about the ntp time source and the time goes away on it. No features, just bug fixes. Perhaps I have something wrong with my ntp...

Guide to Cisco 79xx
Anybody have a guide to the Cisco 79xx phones? One that I can give the 7 or 8 ppl in my office so that they can stop asking me questions. I was going to type up a basic guide but then decided I don't want to reinvent the wheel, one of you may already have one. I tried to use Cisco's guide but it's for their own protocol, a l...

Cisco 79xx series IP phones

Cisco 79XX Ringers & chan_sccp
Hello: Does anyone know how to configure any of the Cisco 79XX phones to get custom ringers when using chan_sccp with Asterisk? I've currently got Asterisk's 05-24-04 CVS-HEAD and Zozo's 0.2 release of chan_sccp. I've tried using ringlist.dat, but that appears to only be for the SIP phones... Thanks for any input, Andrew

Cisco 79xx logon/logoff
Hi All, I'd like to know if anyone has figured out a way to be able to have users logon/logoff manually from Cisco 79xx phones (with SIP firmware loaded)? Scenario is, user walks into office, sits at a random desk, and logs onto the phone. The system would need to "log them off" of the last hardphone they were on, and then configure the new phone for their extension. We're creating hotdesks and it wou...

Cisco Gear
...39;s, 7920G's (wireless IP phone), 7935's (conference phone) and 3550-24-PWR switches. I also have boxes of 7914's, the single-7914 foot stand and double-7914 foot stand (these are required to connect a 7914 to a 7960G). And some useful locking and non-locking wallmount brackets for 79xx range. We also have lots of PSU's for the whole 79xx range. I'll now feel ashamed, and sink into my seat :-) Best, Ad.

Some info about Cisco's 79xx, and Sipura's phones
Hello folks, I've did some tests with different phones and Asterisk last two days and here are some results, which I want to share with audience. Cisco's 79xx and Sipura's phones/adapters on INVITE always reply with their preferred codec. So, for example, if Cisco's/Sipura's phone has preferred_codec g729a(18) and it receives INVITE from UA which has preferred codec ULAW(0), it will always reply with g729 and ignore what is preferred code...

Distinctive ringing on Cisco 79xx
Greetings, I am trying to implement distinctive ringing on a Cisco 7960. I have tried setting alert_info to chirp1 or chirp2 before dialing the phone, but it has no affect. If you have successfully implemented distinctive ringing on a 7960, I would really appreciate seeing the snipit of code that works. Thanks in advance Bruce Komito High Sierra Networks, Inc. www.servers-r-us.com (775)
