Cisco 79xx users/consultants, 7970G color in particular share information (was: Re: asterisk-users Digest, Vol 44, Issue 3)
...39;s really hard to target it as a
development and deployment platform because the docs and techniques are
so obscure.
There seems to be a fair amount of experts in this asterisk-users list.
And there is a fair amount of info in lots of different voip-info wiki
pages (and elsewhere, including the Cisco website labyrinth). If people
in this discussion could update the wiki pages with current and more
complete info, others (like me, with less info to contribute but willing
to edit for usability) could revise the wiki pages to be more accessible
and less redundant/isolated. Announcing wiki revisions...

Asterisk and Cisco 7960
I'm trying to get my Cisco 7960 configured to work with Asterisk, with no
luck. I'm sure I'm missing something very easy... since I know others have
this working. I've stepped through Andy Powell's excellent "Getting Started
with Asterisk", and it works for my X-Lite softphone. My sip.conf entry...

Do I need a CH1 licence for Cisco Phones ?
I've got a question regarding Cisco IP Phones and licencing.
When using a third party PBX like asterisk is a licence required for the
Cisco phones ? Has anyone got anything in writing from Cisco to clarify this
?
Eg can I just use CP-7961G or do I need CP-7961G-CH1 even though I'm not
using Cisco Callmanager ?

cisco poe
I know this is on the wiki, I just want to confirm so I don't blow up my
cisco phones. I've got several cisco 7940's all running using cisco
power cubes. However, my boss wants me to switch just a few over to
poe, but doesn't want to fork out the dough for a nice cisco poe switch,
or anybody else's poe switch for that matter.
So my question is, what is t...

Snom or Cisco Phones?
Hello
I need to buy IP Phones to work with Asterisk, and I'm in doubt between
Snom and Cisco Phones.
Can you gurus, please, give me your impression of these 2 brands? I need
to focus more in SIP and Asterisk compatibility and less in pricing
(yes, I know the Cisco are more expensive).
Are there any features that Snom has, that Cisco doesnt? And are these
features important?
Thanks

Cisco AS5300
Hi all,
I realize this is OT.
I just got a Cisco AS5300, and I need to configure it like such:
Asterisk -----(H323/SIP)------> Cisco ----- (E1/PRI)------->Telco
So calls originate from the Asterisk side (registered users on SIP or just ZAP phones), and they go
out H323 or SIP to Cisco, where they go out PRI.
I have the Asterisk side so...

ATA-186 software upgrade 2.16.1 - notes?
I see that there's now a 2.16.1 upgrade path for Cisco ATA-186
devices, dated (variously) July 11 or July 14 2003.
Here are some interesting bugs that claim to be fixed. Most notable
is CSCeb17953, at least from my perspective, as I've hit this bug
before.
CSCea42480 The Cisco ATA ignores the Require:100rel header and processes call.
CSCea698...

How different is implementing Cisco based system than Asterisk based system?
Hello list,
Slightly off the list topic, but I hope I'll get some help here. Somebody
wants me to implement for his project a Cisco based VoIP system. I told him
that I specialize in Asterisk based systems, but he is not even aware of
Asterisk. The requirement of project is such that chances are slim that this
firm will consider Asterisk based system. So I told him that though not
experienced specifically in Cisco, if they hire...

Cisco 7940G licensing with asterisk
Hi there,
In Cisco web site
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_data_sheet09186a008008884a.html
It says that regardless of the technology used you have to buy a licencse.
Does the license apply to use the phone with asterisk, or, can i just
buy the phone?
Also, the phone does not requiere to...

Cisco 7940 no outgoing audio
Hi All
We have a private network setup (no nat) with three types of phones
connecting to asterisk via SIP. We have Polycom, Grandstream and Cisco
7940 IP phones.
When we ring polycom to grandstream or grandstream to polycom then both
phones can send and receive voice fine and all is well.
When we dial any combination of Cisco and either Polycom, or Granstream
the Cisco, no voice is being sent but the Cisco can receive voice from
the remote...

Cisco Gateway sending call to * without CID Name
Hi All,
I have a Cisco 2600 PRI gateway being hosted on an Asterisk server.
The PRI on the cisco is pointing to a customer legacy PBX, the SIP
VoIP side of the cisco is pointing to an Asterisk server (1.2.X).
In Asterisk, the SIP peer is setup with callerid="some name"<5551212>
In a SIP call from the ci...

Caller ID Info from Cisco router to Asterisk
Dear Asterisk Gurus:
Our county is finally ready to begin implementing IP telephony. We intend
to use a Cisco router as our PSTN gateway and Asterisk as our soft switch.
The plan is to use SIP between the Cisco router and Asterisk. We will have
a single PRI T1 connected to the Cisco router for PSTN access. My question
is this:
Are Cisco routers able to pass caller ID information (from PRI T1)
to Asteri...

Cisco 79xx series IP phones
...full of 7960's, they
work great with asterisk with the SIP images loaded. I'm about to pick
up a lot of 7912's (simple one line phones, same as the 7905 but it has
a built in switch). These phones have also been confirmed to work with
Asterisk.
I would recommend not going directly to cisco, and just find a reseller
who can offer you the phones preloaded with SIP images, or the phones +
the smartnet contracts so you can get the images and firmware from cisco
yourself!
I've tried a *lot* of phones with Asterisk, and thus far, the Cisco's
are by far the best I've used.

Transfer issue with a Cisco CCM/phone
Hello,
We have a mixed environment here consisting of a number of Avaya PBX
systems, a group of Cisco Call Managers, an H.323 gateway on a Cisco
router, and an Asterisk server. The PBX land is connected to the VoIP
land using the Cisco router/H.323 gateway.
The Asterisk system is running code from the CVS tree from around mid
Oct 2005. The OH323 driver on the system is from inaccessnetworks,

new cisco ip video phone?
Hi,
Just finished watching the season finale of '24' the TV series.
Throughout the series they have been showcasing Cisco hardware
especially Cisco IP phones (7970's).
On the last episode or two they showed what seemed to me a new cisco
IP video phone. It stands just as a 12" lcd screen with the cisco
branding/logo and letters just as the 79xx series.
I wonder if this is a new cisco model thats ready to ro...

Cisco 7905
Can anyone tell me the features of the Cisco 7905 with SIP? I mean things
like number of lines, speakerphone, transfer buttons, etc. I've seen the
Cisco material, but all it told me was how nifty it is and how wonderful
the XML interface will be ;)
Thanks,
