Hello everybody, i have found, that i can limit the OUTGOING bandwidth with the option "rate=" (e.g. rate=250KB/s) at the vif line in my sxp-file. I have tested it, it is working good, but why it is "only" limiting the outgoing bandwidth ? Is there any easy way to limit the incoming bandwidth too, something like the obove option ? My network setup is bridged. Thank you in advance! Greetings, Eduard _______________________________________________________________________ Jetzt neu! Re: [Xen-users] bandwidth limiting - vif "rate" option
the linux limit only outgoing traffic since the networks packets alrealy arrived in the network card, why limit it ? tycoonog@web.de wrote:> Hello everybody, > > i have found, that i can limit the OUTGOING bandwidth with the option > > "rate=" (e.g. rate=250KB/s) at the vif line in my sxp-file. > > I have tested it, it is working good, but why it is "only" limiting the outgoing bandwidth ? > > Is there any easy way to limit the incoming bandwidth too, something like the obove option ? > > My network setup is bridged. > > Thank you in advance! > > Greetings, > Eduard > _______________________________________________________________________ > Jetzt neu! Re: [Xen-users] bandwidth limiting - vif "rate" option
please say this to xen/linux hackers will be good to have rate in and rate out limiting in xen. but the people will replay to use tc/iptables to do this Stefan de Konink wrote:> On Tue, 22 Apr 2008, Itamar - IspBrasil wrote: > > >> the linux limit only outgoing traffic >> >> since the networks packets alrealy arrived in the network card, why >> limit it ? >> > > Because queues were invented for this :) > > > Stefan > > > >_______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Just put it in the network scripts. The idea would be to have some pretty integrated stuff that has this out of the box, but nothing prevents you to send in a patch ;) Stefan _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

RE: [Xen-users] bandwidth limiting - vif "rate" option
Hi, thanks for the answers!> I think you don''t get it :) tc or iptables are just the tools that xen > hackers will use too. Just put it in the network scripts.I know, that i can do it with tc in combination with iptables, but the setup is very "complex", thats my opinion.> You can install wondershaper for both waysI have heard of wondership, but AFTER a reboot the "vifX.X" (see ifconfig) of the domU will change and wondership is bound to this "vifX.X" ? The "rate" option limits the OUTGOING traffic, but why the devs do not implement even the option to limit the INCOMING traffic. :-D Do i have overseen (maybe the wrong vocabulary, im sorry) something ? A option like rateTX and rateRX would be very cool, right ? :) Greetings, Eduard _______________________________________________________________ Schon gehört?
