http://www.meadowcourt.org/WindowsXenPV-0.5.0.zip>From memory, that version has the block drivers working on 2003 single cpu, and no network drivers. I can''t remember if it worked under XP or not. Also, early on there was some feedback with crashes under Intel arch (I only have AMD), and I never heard from anyone either way with the 0.5.0 release...We''re just working out some checksum offload problems with the network drivers and then I''ll probably put another binary release out. Hello James, thanks for your answer. As I read in the Web, you are developing these driver, aren''t you? I also read about PV-Driver from RHEL5.1, Suse and XenSource. Isn''t it possible to use these driver for OpenSource Xen (e.g. CentOS)? Thank, Günter -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: James Harper [mailto:james.harper@bendigoit.com.au] Gesendet: Montag, 07. XenSource provides PV drivers for Windows, but they appear to only work when running the XenSource non-free version of Xen, and the legal status of using them outside that environment is undefined (probably only because I haven''t bothered reading the EULA :). I hope, someone will answer.I don''t think any of the Linux distros include PV drivers for a _windows_ guest OS. The PV drivers for a Linux guest OS are included in part of the open-source Xen codebase, and so are natrually part of the Linux distros'' branches of xenified Linux. There are also PV drivers for HVM linux in the open-source Xen codebase. I guess it''s pretty much true that nobody uses _windows_ PV drivers with OpenSource Xen, at least until recently when they have started to be developed by folks like James :) Dave _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: [Xen-users] PV- Drivers for Windows (XP, 2003 Server)
You can search for the Open Source HVM drivers, but I don''t think anything stable has come out, yet. The only other PV drivers that I know about for Windows are commercially available (read: NOT free) - these are Novell''s PV drivers for Windows and NetWare, and XenSource''s PV drivers. Again, both of those are commercial products - in Novell''s case you must purchase SLES10 to get the PV driver pack. Not sure about the XenSource ones... --nick>>> On 2008/01/07 at 03:46, Feichtinger Günter<Feichtinger.Guenter@bartelt.at> wrote: hallo everybody, i googled a lot of time, looking for PV-drivers for Windows- domUs. Re: [Xen-users] PV- Drivers for Windows (XP, 2003 Server)
Hi all, The problem is that each vendor ends up with its own version of windows PV drivers. Wouldn''t the world be better with one set of Windows paravirtual drivers? Because XenSource / Novell have an agreement with Microsoft they use the drivers in the commercial products, AFAIK Microsoft virtual server ( Hyper V / Vridian) (they have a beta release) is also a paravirtual platform, maybe in the next version of windows we will have a build-in PV drivers . - Doron Nick Couchman wrote:> You''re right - my mistake. If you install XenExpress you can try the Windows driver pack which comes with that (which are the same as the XenEnterprise drivers because it''s basically the same product). It works *really* well. My regressions on HVM W2K run at 70% of their speed on unvirtualised Linux (with identical hardware), and builds run at about 40% - 50% full speed (these are aggregate results - when I run Bison during the build, for example, it runs at about 1 - 2% speed). So, my choice is: 1 - maintain a Windows box for testing, which runs builds/regressions at 100% speed 2 - throw away the Windows box, virtualise Windows in a 10GB partition on a Linux machine, and run my software at 40% - 70% full speed. It''s a no-brainer. Besides, my desktop Windows box is about 7 years old, so it might have a 200MHz Pentium in it, and that works fine for Word/Excel/Firefox etc. My HVM Windows runs on current hardware, so is probably ~10 times faster to start with. Of course, I haven''t tried running Word/Excel/etc under HVM.. :) Evan _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Download is slower, partly because of the Raid array I/O with the Xen PV drivers overhead, but we still get 3-5 mbps. The network link is not faster anyway, so it wasn''t a problem for us. The system is completely stable and has achieved 5-9 production availability for 3 months up to now. RE: AW: [Xen-users] PV- Drivers for Windows (XP, 2003 Server)
I found em in the XenExpress package. There''s a tool.iso file hidden in some Linux tools archive that comes with XenExpress. Open the iso, inside there''s the setup file for the PV drivers. We use XenSource bundeled in CentOS 5 so I don''t know if installing the PV drivers in a custom built Kernel or installing the driver with a dom0 that was compiled from source will cause any problems. I installed them and it''s stable for me as far as I know. Also, some guy on this list named James something works on an open-source version. Alpha stage though... Re: [Xen-users] PV- Drivers for Windows (XP, 2003 Server)
Just to clarify, as far as I know up until today, without a commercial product, none of the downloadable PV drivers for HVM Windows will work. They always require some interface between the driver and the "commercial" product. You cannot install xen from xen.org (open-source version) and use these downloadable drivers. Your only chance is to try the open-source drivers that James initiated. Please search for it in the mail archives.
