Running Ubuntu 10.04, Nvidia driver version 260.19.29, 3 GB RAM, AMD Phenom Quad-Core, wine-1.3.11. I notice no difference in performance whether OpenGL is enabled or not. Does this mean D3D is now working and I don't need OpenGL now? I get close to 80fps in some places, which is great, but in a raid or other places with a lot of toons and activitiy, Wow practically freezes up and becomes unplayable. Is there a tweak I can do to improve this situation?

So don't trick yourself, OpenGL is still required and is the only way to have 3D on *NIX. With that said you talking about something totally different - whether WoW works better in OpenGL or D3D mode. OpenGL will always be better by definition - Wine just passes all calls to the driver. The question is, is the game itself implemented D3D and OpenGL equally well?

For comparison: Fedora 13 (32 bitPAE), Nvidia driver version 260.19.29 (card is a 460), 5GB ram, AMD Phenom Quad-core, wine 1.3.11. I have not had any lag issues in instances/raids. Have you gone through the WoW page on the appdb for ideas to fix stuttering or lag?
Yes, I read every post, and it's quite a long page. One other person had a similar problem but the thread ended without any resolution. The other day I was in the Tol Barad BG and when I got to a massive group of Horde and Alliance fighting I got so lagged I could barely move. My Internet connection is 16MBps cable. Phenom Quad Core, 3GB RAM, 8800GT 512MB. Maybe be card isn't fast enough any more.
Found this on Overclockers.com. Giving it a try to see what happens. wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks sudo apt-get install cabextract sh winetricks vcrun6 allfonts allcodecs dotnet11 dotnet20 directx9 comctl32 comctl32.ocx fontfix mfc40 mfc42 msls31 ole2 pdh urlmon wininet native_mdac
Nvidia Temperature while playing Wow: 63c
After disabling max fps, it seems to be running much better. I haven't had a chance to try it in a BG or raid yet. Yeah, it's pretty amazing I can play Wow in Linux. I started using Linux with RedHat 6.0. It's just awesome that the only things we have to gripe about these days is video speed and audio problems. Linux has made leaps and bounds in just a few years.
