Now that 1.2 is out, will the issue of randomly dropping audio finally be addressed? Personally, I'm ignoring the stable series until this problem is identified and fixed. I understand that someone is working of revamping OpenAL support in WINE so when will users likely see the fruit of this revamp? This issue of randomly dropping audio with the application then CTD is extremely important. WINE is nearly useless for many applications until this problem is fixed.
You mean the reimplementation of the entire audio system in OpenAL, right? I haven't read any news about that since the last WWN (then again, I'm not following any Wine mailing lists). It would be nice to get a little progress update about that here on the forums. As for "randomly dropping audio", isn't that just a personal problem? I mean, for me, audio either works or it doesn't work, ie. your specific bug exists or doesn't exist for different setups. Of course, it does need to be addressed.

Developers seemed hell-bent on delivering a defective stable version of WINE so I just decided to let them.

Although obviously related, all cases were on different hardware with different operating systems and running different applications.Funny, because I read the forum more than casually, and all I've seen is you intruding on other people's threads with the claim that this is a widespread, known problem. When sound was broken in the Ubuntu 1.2-rc7 package, three bugs were filed about it within hours, with multiple other people confirming. No one has filed a bug about this problem you claim is widespread--not even you.

I'll just assume the developer behind it has been working on it and maybe we'll see something cool submitted soon. It sounded really promising to me. :)
