This is why the Wine community recommends turning off Compiz.  It is a wonderful
interface, but has its 'quirks'....

Indeed. Notes stress-tests Wine, Wine stress-tests Compiz, Compiz
stress-tests the video driver and the driver stress-tests X ... it's
just the way to get the really *interesting* bugs to show themselves

Anything you can remove helps.  Try this with Compiz turned off and see if the
bug goes away.  If so, the bug is in Compiz.  If not, then the bug is either in
Wine, X or your video drivers.
