MakeTestFailures
http://wiki.winehq.org/MakeTestFailures I downloaded and compiled from bleding-edge git and ran these last night. I boggled slightly when the unit testing actually crashed X (Kubuntu Hardy, kwin) - is anyone else getting this? I ran the tests again in failsafe (just a naked xterm - or, rather, konsole - and no window manager) and they finished and submitted OK. (Are others running these? By the

Wine on OpenBSD
Hi, I was just wondering if there is any ongoing effort to get wine ported to OpenBSD. The wine version in their ports tree is from 1999 or so. -- Marcel W. Wine runs your malware!
http://www.trustedsource.org/blog/186/Running-Windows-Malware-in-Linux So: avoid running toxic waste, and use a fresh .wine and run ClamAV over it regularly if you're fond of trying random binaries found on the Net a lot ;-) - d.

The pros and cons of a wiki AppDB
2009/3/7 Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio at earthlink.net>: > I can think of one possible benefit. There are a lot of apps without maintainers, and there might be users of those apps who would be willing take a few minutes to post bits of useful information in a wiki, but don't want the responsibility of being a maintainer. Sure, they could just post info in a comment, but user comments are

Ubuntu users, please upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy for Wine 0.9.60 and later
To prevent conflicts when upgrading to 8.04, older releases will no longer be getting Wine updates. Ubuntu Hardy will be released this Thursday, and contains many fixes that also affect Wine, such as support for some missing libraries in the 64 bit version. By default, Ubuntu's update manager will disable third party repositories on upgrade, which will leave you with the Wine included in

MSN Messenger in Wine?
It's marked "garbage" in the appdb, because the installer doesn't run without quite a bit of tweaking. But anyway ... I want to get MSN working in Wine. It's for my girlfriend's daughter, whose XP box just got trashed by a virus/rootkit (spread via MSN, of course). So we've saved her stuff and we're nuking and paving the box. I would like to use Ubuntu instead of

playing with Wine on Cygwin
I'm currently playing with Wine on Cygwin on Windows 2000 on VirtualBox. Just to see what happens. Also to see how feasible Wine on Windows is from here. I've been updating the http://wiki.winehq.org/CygwinSupport page accordingly. With the 1.1.11 source tarball, I'm getting a compile error: internettransport.c:348: error:

Re: Wine 3D performance - where does the bottleneck lies and how
The performance of WineD3D depends on the application and display drivers. It is hard to say where we are losing the performance and whether it is WineD3D which has to be blamed. To find out where the performance is lost you need to profile the app using e.g. sysprof or oprofile. Then you can see where the time is spent. Typically we don't spend a lot of time in Wine code but outside Wine in

Firefox on Wine as preferred browser
Not just for dogfooding, but because it's actually faster than running the native binary: The reason is not clear - hypotheses include MSVC++ builds being much better optimised than gcc builds. I'm sure people are investigating closely. Anyway, I just reinstalled Ubuntu 8.10 and put KDE 4.2 on top and *didn't* install the distro Firefox. No, I got Shiretoko (FF 3.1 nightly) win32

64-bit Linux benchmarks faster
http://www.tuxradar.com/content/ubuntu-904-32-bit-vs-64-bit-benchmarks Just a bit faster, but we'll have a lot of gamers and other such performance nerds here ;-) (This is talking about Linux itself being the 32-bit or 64-bit version, not whether Wine is set up to run 32-bit or 64-bit binaries.) I know Dan Kegel has frequently recommended on this list that unless you really need that much

EAC can't contact FreeDB
Exact Audio Copy 0.99b3 under Wine 0.9.51 on Kubuntu 7.10. It can see the audio CD in the drive, no problems, no fuss. What it can't do is contact FreeDB to get CD track names. Clicking the "FreeDB" button in EAC brings up http://www.freedb.org/ in Konqueror. So the problem isn't that FreeDB is down. When I run EAC from the command line, there's nothing showing up with a

Installing Windows Drivers in WINE
I thought I read somewhere that it was actually possible to install Windows drivers in WINE. I'm only asking because I have a Radeon 8500 on my sister's Linux box, and the Linux drivers really suck. I actually can't even install the proprietary drivers, they are so out of date. Is this possible? Owen Stairs

Weird font in Firefox
Has anyone else had an issue with the font in Firefox? In particular, the font up on the toolbar, buttons, and any text that you type in on a website? I recently installed Firefox (mostly so I can access pages that require the most recent version of Flash) and I get an italicized font with a clear line through the middle of it in the locations I mentioned. It's readable, but just barely.
