[quote="Dotan Cohen"] Of course they will not rewrite the software in another technology. However, had they known that running AutoCAD in Wine was important, they might not have switched to .NET 3.0 before it runs in Wine. Likewise, if you start letting them know _now_ that there is demand for AutoCAD on Linux, then in the future they won't switch from .NET 3.0 to .NET 4.0 before it runs in Wine. [quote] Wrong! They ARE switched to .NET 3.0. My AutoCAD 2009 and Civil 3D 2009 running under .NET 3.0!

I then added that if they know that people are using their software in Wine, they will not switch to technologies that do not run in Wine. So, for example, in the year 2012 when .NET 3.0 runs in Wine and .NET 4.0 does not, AutoCAD will delay their move to .NET 4.0 as to not break Wine compatibility. If we had started inquiring four years ago about AutoCAD in Wine, then Autodesk likely would not have moved to a technology (.NET 3.0) that is not compatible with Wine. I am worried about the future of Linux- and Wine- support. Just dig on wine bugzilla, grab the patch, apply it and rebuild wine. better, look at autocad 2005 howto, it works for 2008 and has a step-by-step explanation. BTW, on my wine (1.1.2) 2008 is still by far more unstable than 2005, so I suggest you to not use it for production purposes. 2005 works wonderful (using it daily) besides of slow TTF rendering and a crash on multiline text edit. Slow TTF is really annoying, we could find restrict the cause of it but nobody has still written a patch for it. Just write a small autolisp/activex app that changes all ttf from drawing to an back to vector builtin fonts. Ciao Max

so I have to wait next release? Thanks for your fast answer.

Hello, I read basically all the topic on AutoCad installation and cannot get it to work. I am trying with 2008 within CrossOver and now wine. It start nicely, installs .net, and all needed components I can hear the CD running but when it comes to CAD installation itself it pops-up with insert Disk-1 [Crying or Very sad] I mounted the device with different names, copied data to drive. Cannot pass that point. This is last error: Code: fixme:volume:GetVolumePathNameW (L"D:\\", 0x7db93800, 261), stub! fixme:reg:GetNativeSystemInfo (0x33fb38) using GetSystemInfo() err:setupapi:do_file_copyW Unsupported style(s) 0x144 I run wine wine-1.1.8, downloaded yeterday from wine repository, so I assume that is the latest one. I tried also wine installation of that type as suggested:> msiexec /i acad.msiBut I get Fatal Error: Installation ended prematurely because of error.> fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"hq000003" 0x136738 0x32f88c 0x136468 0x32f890 0x32f884 - stub > err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"SetupWizard" returned 1603 >Thanks for any help.
Hello, I finally managed to install version 2008 but cannot get it to run. When I try to execute it I get error:> err:module:attach_process_dlls "adlmdll.dll" failed to initialize, aborting > err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\AutoCAD 2008\\acad.exe" failed, status c0000142 >Of course adlmdll.dll is under Program Files/AutoCAD. For the test I tried to rename it and then I had different error about not found dll. I see someone else had similar error, but I could not find the solution so far. Hope some can lead me to correct path now.
