[vorbis] What systems are you using to listen to Oggs?
What rigs do you folks use to listen to your music? I have a P-III 500 with Altec Lansing speakers in the dining room and a P-II 350 with Labtec speakers in the Guestroom/office. Sorry, I can't remember what model the Lansings are off the top of my head. The Labtec speakers are fairly cheap. I have a PCI ensonique sound card in the P-III system. I not sure what kind of sound card is in the P-II system. Both systems are networked so I can play music from either one. I have my mp3s and Oggs on three different partitions on the two systems. I send the signal over to my old stereo (over 20 years) through the tape deck inputs. It's an Onkyo TX-31 with two studio Monitor V speakers in the Living room. I also have a pair of speakers in the basement and two more sets of Labtec PC speakers in the kitchen and the Guestroom/office. It's definitely not a HI/FI setup, but it works! So what do you use to Listen to your Oggs and would you have any recommendations on sound cards, amplifiers and speakers if I wanted to upgrade my system. Since I live in an environment with limited space (student), I rarely use my two Sonobull 60W speakers attached to an old Telefunken HR-800 receiver. Nothing extraordinary, far from HiFI; both headphones and speakers are somewhat too intense on the lower frequencies, but have a quite ok dynamic and clearity (?). It's ok to listen to a broad range of music varying from trance, pop and south american to classic, though I'd love to be able to afford a Sennheiser or similiar. Sound Blaster Live, and a hand built (by me!) playmaster pro series III amplfier, and my DIY 10" 3 way speakers. I'd like to think it's Hi-Fi, but I also don't claim to have golden ears. (It's a celeron 500 system if that matters). ----- Original Message ----- From: evert A Claesson <eclaesson@juno.com> Date: Wednesday, December 19, 2001 3:18 am Subject: [vorbis] What systems are you using to listen to Oggs?> > What rigs do you folks use to listen to your music? I have a P133 as my main desktop system, running linux. XMMS just manages to play ~64/96 oggs without making the poor thing explode. Oh, I also have an _Original_ SB16, and some really semi-good old headphones, except they're annoying, because you only get sound on the right side unless you twist the wires a certain way. Broken wires or something, annoying. My setup isn't exactly state of the art (Well, it was six years ago!), but I do notice the difference between 64k and 128k .ogg's easily enough

-- Daniel Richards PGP Public Key: http://shell.world-net.co.nz/~kyra/DanielRichards.asc
--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. A while ago I bought a second-hand Musical Fidelity X-ACT for about $100, and it's much, much better than a soundcard. Maybe there are soundcards which sound just as good but they will probably cost the same (if not more). My soundcard is a cheap ($16) Cmedia 8738 with S/PDIF output.
