Pitch shift with RC2
I've just installed RC2 and I'm very excited about the quality. It's so
much better than MP3. This is the first version I've used since I just
found out about Ogg Vorbis.
I did notice that very high frequencies seem to be missing but since not
many people can hear much above 18 KHz it's not much of an issue. I suppose
this resolves the hiss problem so prevalent in MP3.

HPEC audio clipping
I have recently moved an asterisk system to a new location. This location
is experiencing terrible echo. I installed the HPEC from Digium but that
has caused a new problem.
When HPEC is enabled and more that 16 taps are used, the audio from the
outside caller gets clipped. Instead of hearing:
Hello, my name is Mike
one hears
He o, m ame ike
If the taps are set to less than 16, there

Clicking Problems with slightly clipped audio
It appears that both the echo canceller and the noise reducer (NR)
introduce rather severe clicking artifacts when presented with audio
that has slightly overloaded the A/D converters. I am talking about
speech that sounds just slightly distorted, due to clipping, when simply
played back. If I pass that speech through the echo canceller or the
noise reducer, it acquires really loud clicks and/or

what player for Mac OS 8/9?
The software page's only currently maintained Ogg Vorbis player for Mac-people is the iTunes plugin that seems to be for OS X only.
Is there no player for Mac OS 8 or 9?

Are AMDs preferable? [was: Choosing a processor]
Hi again,
On a related not, I think I read in the mailing-list archives that the
Pentium III wasn't "ideal" for .ogg operations; are AMD's processors more
appropriate/do they perform better?
Thanks,
Joane

RC3 Tagging/Encoding and Winamp answer
First of all, I'm using WinXP and love vorbis! :-)
Since I just joined the mailing list, I figured I would answer the Winamp
question. Winamp has different EQ algorithms - they have a "fast layer 2/3
EQ" option for mp3s, and they have a PCM EQ for all other formats (wma, ogg,
etc.). While the mp3 EQ sounds ok, the PCM EQ (which gets applied to ogg
files) is absolutely horrible. I

HDCD
does anyone on this list have any idea of what an HDCD is? i have a cd and
that logo is on the back, and windows media player 7 recognizes it as an

sound better or what. it sounds fine......feel free to email back to me and
not to the list as this is off topic...........uhh..........i am ripping it
to ogg vorbis! =P

make lo-fi sound as good as RealAudio?
Can someone who really knows the Ogg command-line encoder, help recommend the best setting for 33.6k modem stereo music streaming?
(56k doesn't count cuz many people's 56k modems don't work at a full 56k, and I want them to be able to surf CD Baby at the same time as listening. 2 minutes / 120 seconds of audio should be about 400k.)
I'm at my wit's end: tried everything I

a way restrict encoding sound volume
You have the point.
"I get very distorted speech when using libspeex in my application. What¡¯s
wrong?
....
If the input speech has an amplitude close to ¡¾2^15, it is possible that
at decoding, the amplitude be a bit higher than that, causing clipping when
saving as 16-bit PCM."
This is one of FAQs in 'speex-manual' you wrote. I guess amplitudes close
to 2^15 bother me. Do

Sound file quality
I'm building a phone-in demo system to use for introducing Asterisk to
prospective clients.
One of the things I'm wary of is their likely preconceptions that VoIP
systems will have poor audio quality.
As a result, I'd like to ensure that the voice prompts I'm using have the
best possible audio quality.
Is it possible to use sound files at higher than 8kHz sampling? My callers

Few questions concerning clipping
I noticed that clipping occurs in lossy audio compression even
if there is no clipping in the original file (though the original
file has peaks that are just below the maximum). I know
that this happens due to all the filtering involved during compression,
but I'm wondering just how audible this clipping is because I don't
hear anything wrong. I mean, as things are now, is it safe to say

normalising vorbis
Hi Guys,
I've done some line recordings, and to save space compressed straight
to vorbis, and as such have no access to the original. Upon
listening, I found the volume to be quite quiet and I am wondering if
there exists a native vorbis normaliser, so I don't have to decompress
to wave, normalise and recompress. Does anybody know of such a beast?
I'm aware of

oggenc adds severe distortion
Hi all,
I routinesly rips my CDs to WAV and then convert to ogg vorbis format
for use in my car and portable player. I don't usually notice anything
amiss, but on the last track of Mike Oldfield's "Music of the Spheres"
album ("Musica Universalis", at the very end crescendo), the converted
.ogg file exhibits terrible distortion (sounds like digital clipping).

lattice: clipping data, not plot margins
I am plotting subsets of my data, using ylim.
This works fine, but the outer margin line widths of the plot are thin, due
to clipping.
If I include
> trellis.par.set(clip=list(panel = "off"))
then the outer margin line widths are fine, but the outlying data is
visible.
Is there any way of achieving both correct margin line widths and clipping
of outlying data?
Thanks,

grid and gtkDevice package clipping bug.
Hello!
When I draw points on grid's viewport with clip set to TRUE clipping
does not have effect on some symbols. It happens only when drawing over
gtkDevice (GTK ver. 1.2) (with postscript device clipping works OK -
take a look at this screenshot
http://www.hppi.troitsk.ru/Kondrin/clipbug.png) and only with symbols
that are drawn with commands other than gdk_draw_polygon() (i.e. circles

Metadata-Program
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is)
Hello,
there was a discussion about defining a TRACKTOTAL tag which ended in the
conclusion that this is actually metadata about an album and we need a metadata
program (like iTunes) to manage it.
Well iTunes is about to be released for Windows. For everyone who likes free
software or is using Linux: there's a program called prokyon3

iTunes for Windows - Ogg Vorbis support
I absolutly love the program, have been waiting for it for a long time.
But, the Ogg Vorbis support is not good.
There is this project: http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/
-It's very very slow.
-Not perfect vorbiscomment support (no support for chars like øæåö etc.)

Vorbisgain in OggDropPXd
Hi (hope I am in the right mailing list!)
I really can't figure out how to use Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd - it
doesn't seem to work so far.
Can Someone pls. explain detailed (steps) what to do when using
Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd?
I understand the settings for Vorbisgain are in "decoding options"...
why?
What I really want is the function of Mp3Gain on Ogg-files, and I
thought
